Manchester United’s possible signing of Raphael Varane has been approved by Andy Cole
It has been no secret in the media over the past few months that United are open to the idea of splashing the cash and bringing Varane to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £60 million.
Varane is one of the most decorated Madrid players in recent times after helping the club win four Champions League trophies, three La Liga titles, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey since arriving from Lens back in 2011.
The latest reports suggest United are confident of reaching an agreement for Varane over the next fortnight, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intent on bringing a proven centre-half with pace to Old Trafford to compliment captain Harry Maguire.
And amid the rumours that Varane is closing in on a move to United, Cole has opened up and approved his arrival at the club, claiming that he has the qualities to take the club forward.
‘If that happens, I think it’s going to be a big, big positive,’ former United and England striker Cole told The Mirror.
‘He’s still very young for a centre-half and has played at the highest level for many many years now.
‘He’s won numerous championships and Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, World Cup winner
‘So he obviously has the qualities to bring Manchester United forward, so if it happens I think it would be a fantastic signing.’

The Red Devils icon added: “I think there will be a lot of pressure, which there should be with Manchester United.
“Sancho coming in, they are rumoured to be in for a few more players.
“They are in a period now where the fans will be wanting success, silverware, and Ole and his coaching staff will be under pressure to deliver that.”

RENNES president Nicolas Holveck has not ruled out the possibility of youngster Eduardo Camavinga leaving the club this summer.

Holvek told French radio station RMC: “Discussions are still ongoing.
“Everything is open, either for a departure during this transfer window – if an offer satisfies everyone – or to extend [his contract].
“He won’t leave for cheap, we’ve had a lot of discussions but nothing is complete one way or another.”
