Man United icon Wayne Rooney has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford after the forward signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are just two European giants that hoped to take advantage of Rashford’s stalling contract talks, But after scoring 30 goals last season, Man United quickly raised their offer and the club are delighted the deal is sorted.
The England international is set to earn a reported £375,000 per week, and Rooney is pleased he has committed his future to the club.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –
Speaking to the press after the MLS All-Stars game against Arsenal, he said: “I think Marcus Rashford is an incredible talent. I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal.
“I think the next five years are going to be important in his legacy.
“He can score a lot of goals, but if he really wants to go to that level of which [Kylian] Mbappe and [Erling] Haaland are at, he really needs to be the man to get Manchester United back to winning titles and I hope he can.”
After signing the deal – Rashford announced just how delighted he was –
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.
“I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve, and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead.
“As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone.
“I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room. I couldn’t be more excited for the future under this manager.”
