Brilliant Frenchman announces ‘he wants to be Arsenal’s Virgil Van Dijk’

French defender William Saliba has revealed that he wants to be Arsenal’s Virgil Van Dijk at the Emirates after committing his future with the Gunners

The Frenchman arrived back at the Emirates last summer after a very successful spell in Ligue 1  – in which he developed into one of the best central defenders in Europe.

His first season back at ARSENAL showed just how brilliant he is – and he was one of the stars of that Mikel Arteta side – with his injury towards the end of the season one of the main reasons why that League title was not won.

He has recently signed a new contract at the Emirates and he has revealed that he now has plans to be the ‘Van Dijk’ of that Arsenal back line.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID – 

In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, he said: “I still watch him!” the Frenchman said of Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk. “I really like his quality in one-against-one, his calmness, his composure and his long balls as well. He has everything and, for me, he was a good defender to learn from.”

He continued, “I think he was – for two or three years – the best defender in the world.”

When questioned about whether he has the attributes to become one of the best like Van Dijk, he said: “Of course I have the quality, but that means nothing.”

“You have to work hard to go to this level. So, I’m not close to this level but I will give everything to maybe one day become the best defender in the world.”

WILL SALIBA BE ONE OF THE BEST?

The lad has all the quality and all the ability to be one of the best and if he is able to stay fit and continue playing – he will be one of the worlds best.

He has everything that a modern day defender needs to be as good as Van Dijk – its just whether he has that mental ability too.
