Manchester United great Schmeichel opens up and rips into Frenchman Pogba
Peter Schmeichel has criticised Paul Pogba’s Manchester United performances and says the Frenchman is unpopular with the supporters.
Pogba has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months with all indications that he would be sold during the summer transfer window, especially as he came out and admitted that he is interested in leaving the Manchester giants for a possible switch to Juventus or Madrid.
However, the Frenchman did not get the move that he desired as Solskjaer is keen to keep hold of the midfielder, believing that he may sign a new deal and be the player that many had hoped when United acquired him from Juventus just a few seasons ago.
But after watching Pogba play for 90 minutes in United’s 1-1 home draw against Arsenal on Monday, Schmeichel told Australian broadcaster Optus Sport: “The way the ball is being moved around when Pogba is in the team, is different to the pace the ball is being moved around when he’s not in the team, and that is something they need to work on.
“In the first 25 minutes [he was] just basically playing the ball backwards and, for a player of his calibre, that’s disappointing.
“It kind of feels like he is the problem child in this team. I’m not saying he’s doing everything wrong, I’m more confused what his job is. What is it that he’s going to do for this team?”
Keeping hold of Pogba during the summer transfer window was a huge mistake by the Red Devils and they should have cashed in while they could have, to try and sign a player that actually wants to be at Old Trafford.
But if the right offer comes in during the next couple of windows, then United do need to sell the Frenchman as he is simply causing more trouble then he is currently worth.
If he wants to go, let him leave and bring in a world class replacement Solskjaer, it is that simple.
