Guys here is a roundup of the latest Manchester United news, gossip and transfer talk from icfootballnews.com over the past 24 hours.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed new signing Bruno Fernandes has made the club ‘watchable’
There has been alot said about United over the last few seasons since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, and there has been alot said about the quality of certain players in key areas of the pitch, as many feel there are too many average squad members.
However, United changed that in the summer when they landed Harry Maguire, who has made the defence much better than last year, and then they ended months of speculation by bringing in the brilliant Fernandes, who has transformed this United side.
Fernandes has galvanised the Red Devils since his £67million move at Manchester United from Sporting in January, helping them to an 11-match unbeaten run, scoring twice and providing three assists in just six appearances, and hos performances have caught the attentions of Scholes.
Old Trafford’s ginger hero has said ‘everything’ has impressed him about Fernandes and said the club should have gone all out for him in the summer: “He’s brought a lifeless attacking team to life,” he told BT Sport.
“You wonder where United would be if they’d signed him in the summer. He’s made a team that wasn’t all that watchable at times very watchable.”
Asked what has impressed him about Fernandes, Scholes replied: “Everything so far.
“His creativity, his awareness on the pitch… before the ball comes he knows what’s happening. More often than not he makes the right pass. He’s sensational.
“He’s got goals in him, too, and you just wonder why nobody else came in for him or why we didn’t get him in the summer.”
“He looks a special talent, he looks like he can be a hero with the fans as well,” the former midfielder added.
“You look at your Cantonas, your Wayne Rooneys, these people who are idolised by the fans, you hope that in future he can become a player just as good as them.
“Sometimes it can take one player to make a team click and he looks like that player.”
Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has confirmed he wants to sign Arsenal transfer target Chris Smalling from Manchester United.
There is still some doubt about the qualities of David Luiz and Shkodran Maustafi, while there is also a feeling that Sokratis may leave the club if he cannot get back into the habit of playing in the Premier League on a weekly basis in that Arsenal back-line, leading to reports on a move for Smalling.
Smalling has been in fine form since he moved to Italy on-loan with AS Roma and he seems to have revived his career at the Italian giants after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer felt that he was surplus-to-requirements at Old Trafford last season, and several top European sides have now begun to consider moves for the 30-year-old.
**Do you have something to say about your club? Send us an article for discussion!**Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been hailed as the ‘new Paul Scholes’ by club legend Bryan Robson.
United ended months of transfer speculation during the January transfer window by acquiring the services of Fernandes, who has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in the game over the past 12 months.
His impact at Old Trafford as been nothing short of remarkable and he has transformed the feeling around Old Trafford with his brilliance on the pitch, adding that star factor to a midfield that has been lacking in world class ability for the last few seasons now.
And his performances have not gone unnoticed by legend Robson, who made over 400 appearances for the Red Devils, as he believes Fernandes shares similar attributes to another true great of the club: “Bruno looks a special player,” Robson said on talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast.
“I’ve met him a few times, I’ve seen him at the training ground and he’s got a fantastic attitude.
“He mixes really well with the lads and you can see why he was captain of Sporting.
“What a talent he is. He’s not a Roy Keane, Paul Ince or Nicky Butt type of midfielder, he’s more like Paul Scholes.
“He’s brilliant at getting in little pockets in between the defence and midfield, he gets into these areas, gets himself space and he’s got terrific vision where he can sees a pass and perform a pass like Paul Scholes could, and he can score goals too.
“Hopefully he proves me right and goes on to be another Paul Scholes for Manchester United.”
Scholes was one of the most gifted players of his generation and it would have been a pleasure to many fans to see him perform on a weekly basis, Fernandes in showing great quality but he needs to keep this up, as things could change very quickly in the English game.
