Erik Ten Hag makes midfielder claim as Man United close in on shock summer deal

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refused  to comment on speculation linking Scott McTominay with a move to Fulham.

The Scotland international was in the starting line-up as United stunned Manchester City to win the FA Cup final in May, and seemed to be a big part of the plans of Erik Ten Hag.

A sale of McTominay this summer looked much less likely than last, but there has been alot of speculation in the media that Fulham are keen to sign the midfielder this transfer window.

Fulham have recently just signed Emile Smith-Rowe from Arsenal and are now reportedly keen to sign McTominay from United over the next few weeks – and amid all the rumours – Ten Hag has praised the midfielder, who has been one of the most consistent performers during his reign.

He said: “I’m so pleased with the performance from Scott McTominay and so pleased to have him in my squad, for the type of person he is.

“He has such an impact on this team with his performance and team spirit.

“Of course, now we play him in a more advanced position, which suits him much better, and he is so important in making goals for our team.”

He is a solid player that puts a good shift in – but if Manchester United wants to get back into the habit of competing at the very highest level of the game – then replacing the Scottish star may be the best thing.

He will be a squad member this coming season – if he moves – he could be first choice – so it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out in the coming days.
