Gunners legend approves Arsenal move to sign much talked about target Zaha
Gunners legend David Seaman has backed Arsenal to make a move and bring Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha to Arsenal this summer transfer window.
Zaha has become one of the most talked about players of the transfer window, as his performances for Palace over the last 12 months have alerted the top clubs to his clear potential.
But Arsenal have emerged as the front-runners to complete a deal for Zaha, as reports in the media have claimed that Unai Emery is desperate to add some width to the squad this summer and add something different to his attack.
Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal have made an opening offer of £40 million for Zaha, which has quickly been rejected as Palace are seeking close to £80 million for their star man.
But amidst all the transfer speculation about a move to Arsenal, Seaman has admitted that Zaha could be a great signing for the club, telling Football.London: “Yes, Zaha is a good player who could do well for the club, and yes I know I would say as a former goalkeeper that the defence is the first place to look at in terms of signing new players – but the simple fact is that the backline needs strengthening,”
‘It’s no good having the best players in the world up front if you don’t have a solid defence.
“It’s no secret that Arsenal need to strengthen their defence, certainly after missing out on Champions League qualification. I think Tierney would be an ideal addition for Arsenal.
“He’s young, he’s talented. I think I’m right in saying he’s already captained his club and country and by all accounts he’s a hard worker with a great attitude.
“Being British he’d also settle in straight away and there would be no period of adjustment. I really think they should be looking to sign Tierney before setting their sights on Zaha.”
Zaha to Arsenal would excite many Gunners fans as he would bring some real quality and pace to the Gunners attack, but he should not be the priority, especially as Emery only has limited funds to spend this transfer window.
He could be a great signing for Arsenal if they manage to pull this transfer deal off, but they will have to pay more than the £40 million that has been offered already, which could cause a problem as they do not have a lot of funds to spend this window.
