Arsenal can sign midfielder for £10M in January – will he be a good signing?
Frank McAvennie has suggested Arsenal target Douglas Luiz could leave Aston Villa for as little as £10million in January – but would he be a good signing?
Mikel Arteta got the full backing of that Arsenal board over the course of the transfer window and honestly – signed some players that have made a real difference to the quality of the squad
They are sitting top of the Premier League with five wins from six Premier League games – and there is a strong feeling that they could push on to even challenge for that title by the end of the season
But Arteta knew that he needed to add some more meat to the squad on deadline day and made a move to try and sign Aston Villa star Luiz – who is regarded very highly in the Premier League
However – the move failed to materialise and, in the end, – Luiz stayed put – but McAvennie suggested that the impressive star could be free to leave Villa for just £10 million in the coming transfer window
“You’re only worth what people offer for you,” he told Football Insider.
“When people want you that’s when you’re worth money and you can bargain and get the money up. I don’t know him personally, what his temperament is like.
“I don’t know if he wants to stay or if he’s got ambitions to go then it doesn’t matter how much Aston Villa want to drop the price, if he doesn’t want to go until next year then he won’t go.
“If he wants to leave in January, Steven Gerrard will have to tell him they’re dropping the price to £10million or £15m and if he says yes he’ll leave and if he says no he’ll stay until the summer.
“I don’t think players need to money nowadays the way they used to. So Gerrard can talk to him and ask him if he wants to see out his contract or get a bit of money for the club.
“If he’s got any decency he’ll get some money for the club.“
