Smith Rowe deal, Martial signsdeal, Redknapp-Emery message on Suarez deal, Gunners ripped in Arsenal deadline day news

Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal news, gossip and speculation from deadline day.

RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe is undergoing a medical.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is a fan of Smith Rowe having given him his senior debut in September and a total of six first-team appearances this season.

He is highly-rated at London Colney and the hope is he emulates Reiss Nelson’s progress during his season-long loan at Hoffenheim before resuming his career at Emirates Stadium.

Now the German side have announced that Smith Rowe has arrived for his medial ahead of his loan move untill the end of the season, telling their club website: “Yes, I can confirm that the player is in Leipzig. And that we’ll carry out the medical today.

“Then we’ll have to see that we have everything available to be able to complete the transfer today.

“If that is the case today, we do not have that much time left – everything must be done by 6pm (German time when the window closes) – then the player can come to us.

“At the moment this is not the case and I cannot confirm this transfer yet. If everything will work out, then I can still say something about it tomorrow.”

Leipzig are wary of a repeat of last season’s loan move for Ademola Lookman, who impressed during his time at the club but returned to Everton because no permanent transfer had been agreed.

Arsenal and Tottenham target Anthony Martial has signed a deal with Manchester United until June 2024.

Martial had been heavily criticised by ex-boss Jose Mourinho, and a number of former players, for his inability to put in decent performances on a weekly basis, with the Frenchman going missing at times when he is needed most.

And that has led to speculation that he could head to the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, PSG or Juventus in the next transfer window, with reports he has become unsettled with life at Old Trafford.

However, he has been reinvented since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is very happy in his surroundings, so despite all the transfer speculation, he is now delighted with the deal he has agreed with the Red Devils.

Martial said on the Sky Sports website: “I am loving my time at this club. From the day I joined I have been made to feel part of the United family and I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support.

“I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me to take my game to the next level. This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.”

Unai Emery thinks Denis Suarez will bring versatility to his Arsenal team after completing a January loan deal.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is reunited with Unai Emery after months of speculation, having played under the Spaniard during the 2014/15 season with Sevilla.

And Emery has admitted that the Spaniard will bring some much needed versatility to the Gunners squad, telling the Sky Sports website: “We are very happy that Denis Suarez is joining us. He is a player we know well and I have worked with him at Sevilla.

“He brings us quality and options in many different attacking positions, so he’ll be able to help the team.”

Suarez has featured in just a handful of games during the opening months of the season for Barcelona, and many fans are not happy with the fact Emery has signed another midfielder rather than working on signing defenders this January.

However, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp thinks Suarez’s work ethic has played a huge part in Arsenal snapping him up on loan.

He said: “The fact Unai Emery has worked with Denis Suarez before, he understands the player. He obviously has a good work ethic and that’s the reason why Mesut Ozil hasn’t been playing. Emery doesn’t think Ozil does enough without the ball.

“He’s a talented player and Arsenal have two gems up front in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. So, if you’ve got people getting the right supply line to them then that’s what you need.”

Charlie Nicholas has urged Arsenal to strengthen defensively, and has hit out at their transfer policy.

The Gunners have done little business this transfer window but are expected to follow up the signing of Barcelona star Denis Suarez with another midfielder, with the likes of Ivan Perisic and Monaco star Yuri Tielimens.

However, many in the media believe that Unai Emery should have improved the defensive side of the squad, as they simply have not been good enough this season and many feel that will be the area that costs the club getting back into a top four spot by the end of the season.

And Nicholas had some strong words for his former club, urging them to sign a defender.

He told the Sky Sports website: “I’m happy with anybody now to be honest because this Arsenal transfer philosophy is an absolute joke.

“It really is a joke and has been ever since David Dein left the building.

“I’m confused because we all need defenders and they are hard to get. Liverpool spent £60m to £70m getting one of the best you can get, and we can’t seem to identify one.

“We’re the ninth richest club and we can only get loan deals. I don’t care if the manager likes this player or not, please Arsenal, get some defenders in!
