Solskjaer delighted that Manchester United have signed ‘one of the best over the past 10 years’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he is delight that the club managed to wrap up a transfer deal for Raphael Varane
Varane hit the headlines a few months ago after news broke that he would not be signing a new contract at Real Madrid as they were not prepared to offer him the kind of wages that he desired.
That opened the door for Manchester United to make a move, especially as they wanted to add a perfect partner for Harry Maguire to the side, and after months of rumours and talks, they announced the deal before their Premier League opener.
Varane has committed to a four-year deal which will see him remain at Old Trafford through to 2025, and after seeing the Frenchman make that move to Manchester, Solskjaer opened up and announced his delight at the deal.
He told the club website: “I’m absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure one of the best defenders in the world over the last 10 years. Raphael is a proven winner who we have tracked over a long period of time and we know just how much of a dedicated professional he is.
“We have great depth of international defenders and he will add his immense skill set and leadership to that group. He is a unique defender with a rare combination of top-level attributes that I know will rub off on our younger players.
“He has won everything there is to win but I know that he is still determined to succeed, I can’t wait to welcome him into the squad.”
It was shocking news to see that Varane would be leaving Madrid this summer as he is one of the best defenders in the game, United have done well to get him signed up, he is a real statement signing for the club
