Solskjaer drops stunning hint, Man United sent message over £55 million new arrival, Solskjaer announces he wants striker at Man united
HERE IS A ROUNDUP OF THE TOP HEADLINES FROM ICFOOTBALLNEWS.COM FEATURING MANCHESTER UNITED.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted the Red Devils need a new striker before Friday’s transfer deadline.
United made the massive transfer mistake in the summer by letting Romelu Lukaku go and believing that they had enough fire-power to cover the departure of the Belgian, but despite the good form of Marcus Rashford, United have struggled in front of goal at times this season.
And that has led to a lot of transfer speculation about whom could come in, with new reports on the Daily Express website claiming that United are interested in trying to acquire the services of Timo Werner, who is easily regarded as one of the finest talents in the game.
Ed Woodward has already managed to seal a deal for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, but Solskjaer has opened up and admitted that has is hoping that a striker follows Fernandes to the club by the end of the transfer window.
“I think everyone who is watching us can see what we’re trying to do,” Solskjaer said after United’s Carabao Cup exit against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
“We’ll get there, we’ll add players.
“The culture here… character, attitude. Today the quality wasn’t great, sometimes that happens.
“We need more goalscorers, we need more goals, that’s a definite. We need someone who will break their nose to score a goal, or their toe.
“It doesn’t have to be the nice ones. We know that.
“We’re challenging them, I need to challenge them more, because we can’t just score nice goals.”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville admits he has low expectations of Bruno Fernandes.
There has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few days all suggesting that United are closing in on a transfer deal to acquire the services of Fernandes.
The Portuguese International had an incredible season last year and was involved in over 50-goals for Sporting Lisbon, with many of the top clubs taking a very good look at him during the summer transfer window before being put off by that massive £85 million asking price.
However, Lisbon have dropped that asking price to just £55 million this transfer window and there has been a lot of discussions with the Red Devils about a deal, and after Barcelona showed an interest in Fernandes, UNITEDhave now managed to get a deal done for the Portuguese star.
But Neville has opened up and admitted that he has low expectations of the attacker, telling Sky Sports: “It’s a positive.
“I’ve not got huge expectations of Bruno Fernandes in terms of this next few months.
“I think for him to come to England, to settle in, he’ll need some time.
“But they’ve got a good quality player into the building.
“I think ultimately we shouldn’t be sat here as either United fans or pundits or commentators thinking he’s going to be amazing straight away.
“I think obviously it’s very difficult to hit the ground running in a January transfer.”
Ole Gunnar Solakjsr has dropped a massive hint that Alexis Sanchez will be returning to the club, but he be welcome back?
Two years ago United made a major swoop in January by signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, but the Chile forward struggled at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals in 45 appearances before joining Inter Milan on loan last summer.
Despite allowing him to leave the club, Solskjaer suggested the former Barcelona forward could still make a success of his United career when his loan to Serie A finishes at the end of the season.
Sanchez would have been a welcome option at this point but does not have a recall clause in his loan deal, although Solskjaer expects him to have a Old Trafford future when he returns from Inter Milan in the summer.
“We’ve got players here we’re working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there, then the club are pursuing that and looking at it,” the United boss said on the Daily Star website.
“Of course it is a difficult window. It always has been. I can’t remember how many good ones we’ve brought in, good deals that we’ve brought in in January. Henrik (Larsson) was good, Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra) were two good ones.”
When January 2018 signing Sanchez was mentioned, Solskjaer said: “It’s very hard because the clubs don’t want to lose their best players. Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong.”
WOULD HE BE WELCOME BACK?
Sanchez is done at Old Trafford and probably does not want to make the move back to the club, so it would be a massive surprise to see him prove many people wrong when he clearly does not want to be at United.
Red Devils fans just want to see their club get back into the habit of winning trophies and playing at the very top of the game, so they want big named signings to arrive in the coming windows.
So United FANS WOULD NOT WELCOME HIM BACK TO THE CLUB.
