Follow Ronaldo! Solskjaer has Manchester United message for £50 million Frenchman Martial

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged Anthony Martial to emulate legend Cristiano Ronaldo after agreeing a new contract with the club.

After months of speculationa and rumours, United finally managed to convince Martial to stay put and commit his long-term future with the club, despite all suggestions that he could leave the club after a bad twelve months under Jose Mourinho.

But after seeking Martial impress and earn his new contract, Solskjaer said he told the 23-year-old he could follow in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s footsteps if he continues to work hard.

He said on the Sky Sports website: “I’m here to help players, to guide players until the summer and I think when you sit him down and talk to him, for example, about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made of his career and how he’s got there and we talk about all the fantastic players with the history they’ve got, I think Anthony just said, ‘If I can be a part of this I’d like to’.

“I speak about my experience at this club and what [Martial] can achieve. I talk about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made, how he’s got there.

“That’s up to any player, how you make a decision on how to develop your own career. Cristiano was the best, the way he’s changed to now; that’s part of any player – you’ve got to model yourself on someone and you’ve got to have more challenges ahead of you.”

Here is what we think.

Martial is a very gifted youn striker that does have all the qualities to step up and become one of the games very best strikers, especially if he finds a manager that will love him and give him the kind of game time he needs to develop.

So if Solskjaer can get even a quarter of the quality of Ronaldo, they will have a very special player on their hands.
