Solskjaer transfer message, Under offer submitted, Barella offer put in and Berbatov claim in Arsenal, Man United Saturday news
Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal and Manchester United news, gossip and transfer speculation from IcFootballnews.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he does not expect to sign anyone in the January transfer window.
Despite their recent good run of four wins under the Norweigan, there is alot of talk that United need to spend big money to mount a serious challenge for a top four spot, as they are still lacking world class players in certain areas of the pitch.
Defence has been a big issue this season, while Romelu Lukaku is the only front man they have, and with reports Kalidou Koulibaly, Harry Maguire and Robert Lewandowski are a few names that could have arrived in the coming weeks, it could have been a good month for United fans.
United’s caretaker manager even revealed on Friday that he will meet with the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward this month to discuss the market, but he has now dampened transfer talk by revaling he doe not expect to bring in any players over the next few weeks.
As quoted on the Sky Sports news website, he said: “I don’t expect anyone to come in.
“Obviously if the club have targeted and identified a few and I think they might fit here then I’ll give my thumbs up. But it’s not just my decision. I’m happy with the squad I’ve got.”
Reports have claimed Chelsea have made a huge offer to sign Cagliari star Nico Barella, who is also being chase by London rivals Arsenal
After an impressive last few seasons with the Italian club, reports in the media over the last few weeks have claimed Chelsea were prepared to submit a €45 million (£40.7m) offer to sign the 21-year-old in the winter window.
Despite a great start to the new season, Chelsea will need to strengthen in key areas of the pitch if they are to challenge for more than a top four spot this season, especially since Cesc Fabregas has seemingly played his last game for the club.
And reports on the Daily Express website have claimed Chelsea have already made a 50million euros (£45million) for Barella, as they look to beat off rivals Arsenal this month.
But Cagliari are adamant that Barella will remain with them for at least the remainder of the season, meaning Chelsea may have to wait until the end of the season before they can complete any sort of transfer deal.
Former Manchester Unites striker Dimitar Berbatov has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he does not need to sign a new defender this month.
Despite the fact Solskajer has won four games out of four, there is still much criticism about the quality of his back-line, with many people believing Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof are all accidents waiting to happen.
That has led to alot of speculation that United could delve into their transfer kitty and break the bank to sign up Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly or Inter Milan ace Milan Skriniar, who are now considered to be two of the top defenders in Europe.
But former United and Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov has advised Solskjaer to cancel the club’s plans to land a centre-back.
He was quoted on the Daily Star website: “I have said in this column before that United need a new ball-playing centre-back.
“But the likes of Lindelof and Jones are now showing that they are more than capable of bringing the ball out so they don’t need anyone else.
“Ole instead needs to focus on bringing the best out of the players already on the books and there have been some good signs there already, with Marcus Rashford looking very sharp and even Alexis Sanchez joining the party at Newcastle with an excellent assist.
“The FA Cup match against Reading will be a good chance for the likes of Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to show the new manager that they deserve starting positions against Spurs.”
