Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed featuring the likes of Scott McTominay – Matthijs De Ligt and Raheem Sterling…
Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling is open to a move to Manchester United this summer, according to The Guardian as the Blues look to offload the winger before the close of the transfer window.
Italy’s Juventus and Turkey’s Fenerbahce have been linked with Sterling though it seems unlikely either would be able to pay his £300,000-a-week salary which currently makes him Chelsea’s highest earner.
Aston Villa have reportedly been in talks with the Blues about a potential deal for the former Liverpool and Man City star but Sterling has been told he has no chance of moving to another Premier League club after Enzo Maresca said he had no future at Chelsea.
The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and is set to hold talks with the Chelsea hierarchy over his contractual situation before pressing ahead with a move away.
Manchester United are among the teams interested in signing the England international, with a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho mooted, and he is now reportedly open to the idea of a move to the Manchester giants.
Amid all the speculation and rumours – former Blues star Emmanuel Petit has opened up and encouraged the likes of Sterling to leave the club if he has the opportunity too: “If you’re Sterling or any Chelsea player and have the chance to leave the club, I would take it. Honestly, I don’t see how Enzo Maresca can rescue this, he’s not a magician,” he told Safest Casino Sites.
“You could put Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp in charge of the team and it will still take months to find a first XI and make everyone happy in the squad. They’re all young players signing huge contracts for eight to nine years.
“Look at Conor Gallagher, he’s another example. Where is he? At the airport? I have no idea. It’s a pity because he’s a very good player.
“I was not surprised by the result against Manchester City on Sunday, how can you build a team spirit between players when you put too much competition for positions in the first XI? It’s nonsense, there’s no confidence in the players.
‘We’ve seen this for a couple of years now and it doesn’t look like anything will change.”
DE LIGT CLAIM MADE –
Bayern Munich all-time great Lothar Matthaus is astounded Matthijs de Ligt was sold to Manchester United this summer after the decision was made to allow the Dutchman to leave the club.
The Netherlands international signed a contract until June 2029, with the option to extend for a further year after it was decided Bayern Munich that he was no longer wanted at the club.
De Ligt has already won the league title in three countries with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich, and the defender has been brought in to add some leadership and quality to a Manchester United back-line that has been leaking goals.
The Bundesliga giants have so far paired former United target Kim Min-jae and Arsenal-linked Dayot Upamecano in central defence.
But ex-Germany midfielder Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany: “The defence is and remains Bayern’s Achilles heel,
“Matthijs de Ligt was sold, even though he was the most stable defender over the past two years. He was the leader of the backline. Now Bayern are again looking for a successor to David Alaba.
For me, it’s pathetic that this leader is missing. If de Ligt had not been sold, I would not have worries at (about) FC Bayern now
“But my opinion about him is probably different to the people in charge. It’s a decision that has to be accepted.
“But many – including within the team – are just shaking their heads. Because the players also know that their defence is shaky. And then the best defender is sold.”

MCTOMINAY GAMBLE –
Manchester United have been told it is a gamble to allow Scott McTominay leave the club this window, amid the many reports that he has agreed a stunning move to Italian giants Napoli.
Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sell the 27-year-old to the Italian outfit for £25 million, but the Scotland international is yet to agree personal terms as a deal is a few days away from being completed.
But after hearing the news – Ferdinand has opened and revealed that he is shocked to see the midfielder being sold – He said on his YouTube channel: “I look at Scott McTominay and not every player can be a star, a standout player.
‘But to win the league you need the likes of John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher… you need a Julian Alvarez at Man City. They might not start every game but they were huge, you need those players and most of them know the DNA of the club, especially ones who have come through the academy, there’s a lot to be said for that.
‘It really doesn’t sit well with me. To replace him you’re going to have to spend £30m or £40m and give him £150,000 a week probably. It’s not going to be cheap and it’s a gamble, you don’t know what you’re going to get, whereas with McTominay you know what you’re getting.
‘He might not always be a nine out of 10 but invariably he’s a solid seven out of 10 and sometimes he will be an eight out of 10 and get you a goal.”
