Star passes Man United medical, £70M star tipped for January move, Amorim issued striker signing message

Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you could have missed this morning…

Left-back Diego Leon has passed his medical after Manchester United agreed to bring the defender to the club and make him the first signing under boss Ruben Amorim

Leon, who was born in 2007, only made his senior debut for Cerro Porteno in August, but His rise has been rapid since then and he has started 18 league games now this season after breaking into the team. It has lead United to join a host of sides in the race to sign him

It had been claimed that Manchester United were in talks over a deal for the star, but now, According to the Sun the 17-year-old has agreed to join United from July 2025 when he turns 18. The highly-rated teenager is set to join the Red Devils for an initial $4 million (£3m), with up to $4m in add-ons.

And the Sun now says that Leon has already passed his medcial.

His manager Manolo Jimenez has heaped praise on the young talent and expressed his delight he is set for a big move to Old Trafford – He told Versus: “Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw, I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed. I hope everything goes well for him in everything that comes.

“He’s a prototype of a full-back in many attacking conditions, with his age, he still has time to improve in his defensive aspect, which is what he has to grow. Surely in Manchester they will give him the right job so that he can develop.

“The day he’s clear about his decision-making, he will be a great player and won’t make mistakes that can’t be criticised. But [these] are typical for his age and his inexperience.”

Is Leon a target for Manchester United or Ruben Amorim? the Portuguese boss is surely keen on adding players that he wants in the side and not the board.

Leon is a talent, that is clear to see, but at the end of the day, United need players that will make an impact now and not in a few seasons, right now, there is no need to sign the wonderkid and this deal will probably be pointless

GYOKERES MESSAGE SENT

Manchester United Treble winner Teddy Sheringham has given his thoughts on Ruben Amorim bring Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres to old Trafford possibly at the end of the season.

Over the past few transfer windows, the Manchester United board have backed the manager and spent some insane money, but the players that have been brought to the club have not improved the side enough to close the gap on the top three or four teams.

Ruben Amorim is now in charge of the club after the sacking of Erik Ten Hag and there has been alot of speculation in the media that the club will look to raid his former club and bring striker Gyokeres to the Premier League.

Last season Gyokeres was in sensational form for Sporting Lisbon and broke the 40 goal barrier for the Portuguese giants, he already has more than 30 goals and is fully established as one of the most dangerous strikers in the game, and a player that Amorim would like at United.

But while he clearly rates the Sporting goal machine, Sheringham doesn’t think United should go in for him – He told BoyleSports: Man Utd signing Viktor Gyokeres would be harsh on Rasmus Hojlund.

“Hojlund has been feeding off scraps for the last 18 months and I think he’s done very well to find himself on the score sheet in the amount of times that he has.

“Gyokeres might be a slight step up but when you go out and spend the money they did on Hojlund instead of going for Harry Kane at the time, they obviously think he’s a good player.

“He’s still learning his trade and he’s still a young man. Gyokeres is proven in Portugal but the Premier League is a different game, especially when it comes to stepping up week in and week out.

“His confidence is high in Portugal but it would take time to adapt for him and bringing him in would also harm Hojlund’s prospects.”

CASEMIRO TIPPED FOR MOVE

Rio Ferdinand has tipped Manchester United midfielder Casemiro to leave the club before the January transfer window in just a few weeks time, after falling out of favour with boss Ruben Amorim.

Over the past few transfer windows – the Board have brought some experienced players to Old Trafford in hope that they could improve on the third placed finish of last season.

However – there has been a number of poor performances in that Manchester United shirt this season and after the Red Devils had one of their worst finishes in the League in recent memory last year, they are on course to finish even further down the League on the clubs current form

Casemiro excelled during his first season at United but last season was one to forget for the Brazilian, as he suffered a dramatic loss of form, now The 32-year-old Brazilian international is said to be open to moving on after finding it challenging to secure a consistent role in manager Ruben Amorim’s setup.

Discussing Casemiro’s situation at Manchester United, Ferdinand said n his YouTube channel: ‘Is the player happy to be on the bench?

‘I don’t think Casemiro will be happy. At any point in his career he’s never been on the bench. So if he’s on the bench now, if an offer came in, he’d listen to it, but also the club, you can see now they are bringing on Toby Collyer.

‘If they get an offer they require, that they want, I don’t think it will be something that will be difficult to happen.

‘If he wants to go and play football, who are we to stand in his way at this stage of his career.’

If the board are hoping that Man United become one of the best clubs in the world once again, then players like Casemiro should not be at the club, they should be moved on so Amorim can get the players he wants.

If Casemiro wants out, then Manchester United should get whatever money they can for the player and allow him to leave the club, he will not be missed too much.

He was one of the best holding midfielders in world football a few years ago, but since he left Madrid, he looks like a player that is just playing until he has to hang up his boots.
