£325k-a-week star told to make move as Chelsea keen to wrap up summer transfer deal

Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes newly-promoted Leeds United would be a good fit for departing CHELSEA winger Raheem Sterling, telling Sky Sports in April: ‘They’re a young team, they like to play attacking football.

Chelsea have been very busy this transfer window, they have spent over £200 million on bringing in new players to improve many areas of the squad and now look like a side that can challenge for that Premier League title next season.

However – the Blues also need to get a number of players off the books over the next few months, and Sterling is a player that Chelsea are reportedly very interested in letting go, according to The Sun

They report that Chelsea are open to selling the 82-cap England international for £20m, less than half what they paid Manchester City for him three years ago. But progress on an exit has been slow, with no talks held between the club and the player, with his whopping £325,000-a-week wages set to be a problem.

But amid all the speculation and rumours about where Sterling could be playing next season, Merson believes newly-promoted Leeds United would be a good fit for departing winger – he said: ‘He’s very good in the dressing room and a good team player. He’s got all the experience in the world, he’s won Premier Leagues.

‘For me, that wouldn’t be a bad move for Leeds or for Sterling. He’d be going to a massive, huge club and the expectations are not as high.

‘If they finish 17th in the Premier League next year they’ve pulled up trees. That would be one that would tick the box for me.’

IcFootballnews Says…

Sterling needs to take a pay-cut if he wants to keep playing in the Premier League or even at the highest level of the game, that £325k-a-week is alot of money to pay and he has not been worth the money since his move from Man City.

He may be a good option for Leeds United, but we cant see them paying £20 million and the a further £325k-a-week wages to a player that is well on the decline.
