Manchester United could reignite their interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney after Rasmos Hojlund picked up an injury in pre-season.

The transfer window is still open until the end of August and it will give Manchester United more chances to start getting some deals done that will send a statement to the rest of the Premier League for boss Erik Ten Hag

And the Red Devils have constantly been linked with a move for the big man – but his asking price has become a problem for all the chasing clubs and that is why he has not yet left Brentford.

Toney is out of contract at the end of next season – and although the interest of United has wavered in recent weeks because of the signing of Joshua Zirkzee – the injury to Hoijlund means that Ten Hag is in need of adding another striker to the attack.

Hojlund is expected to miss six weeks with a hamstring problem – but could be out longer if he does not recover like the staff at United hope for – meaning that he could miss a big chuck of the early weeks of the season.

Manchester United know that signing Toney would bring a different aspect to that attack for the side – he is the type of player that could make a real difference, and because he did not score too many goals last season, they could get him for a bargain, and that would be a good thing.

However – we couldnt see United signing another striker this summer because they have Hojlund and Zirkzee at the club – but Toney could be a very good option for Man United to make.

He would only cost £40 million to sign and to be honest – he could suit the style of that United attack – he is ready to test himself at one of the big clubs – this could be a great opportunity for the player if a move could happen

NICO WILLIAMS BOOST – 

Barcelona presidential hopeful Victor Font insists that the club cannot afford to sign Chelsea linked Nico Williams this summer.

The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts and is a player that is attracting some of the games biggest clubs.

It is no secret that Erik Ten Hag is looking to add some more quality to his Manchester United attack and with the transfer window open for a few more weeks – he is keen to bolster his squad with another winger – to help cove injuries etc.

The Athletic recently claimed that the United are one of a number of clubs that are ready to push ahead with their interest in the Spain star. Barcelona have been the favourites to land Williams but their own financial problems could prohibit them to do so.

But now Font has opened up and put a spanner in the works after revealing that Barcelona cannot afford to sign Williams this summer window – Font said: “I wish we could sign Nico Williams as it is what we need. The president [Joan Laporta] has said it is possible, but that is not true.

‘Today, it cannot be done. We hope it will be possible tomorrow, or the following day. But today, it is not.”

All the clubs that have been chasing Williams will be given a massive boost from this as many believed that a move to Barcelona was going to happen.

Manchester United have the money and the pedigree to now win the race for Williams – but will he really be interested in making a move to the Premier League when he really wants to stay in La Liga?

TEN HAG STILL WANTS DE LIGT – 

Manchester United could reignite their interest in Bayern Munich star Matthijs De Lig after the injury to Leny Yoro.

Summer signing Yoro suffered a metatarsal injury in a friendly against Arsenal, just his second appearance in United colours after his big-money move from Lille. He could be out of action for as long as three months.

And Thanks to the latest injuries United may step up their pursuit of one more player in each position, and De Ligt is a player that Te Hag could look to bring to Old Trafford for a fee of £43 million.

Sky Sports Germany have claimed that Bayern may be open to letting De Ligt leave the club this transfer window – when they will have more of an opportunity to find an immediate replacement for the Dutchman

He is a player that Ten Hag has worked with at Ajax – and although a move for the Dutchman as wavered in recent weeks – the injury to Yoro means that the United boss needs an immediate replacement for the talented Frenchman.

He is young enough to be handed a massive contract by Manchester United and he is talented enough to be a brilliant addition to the squad – so he is certainly the type of player that the Red Devils board would love to sign.

Yoro was a brilliant signing for the club – but he could be out for three months and then he will need time to get back to full fitness before he is ready to make that big impact many hope for.

De Ligt is world class – he would be open to the idea of a move to Man United and to be honest – he would be a world class signing for the Red Devils that would improve that back-line.

And then he could be the perfect partner for Yoro when he comes back.
