Thiago Alcantara would be a welcome addition to a Premier League title-winning squad at Liverpool, says Steve Nicol, but he as been warned about a possible move

Regarded as one of the finest teams in Europe right now with some of the best attackers in the game, there isnt much that Jurgen Klopp needs to improve on in the summer transfer window.

But there has been some speculation in the media which has suggested that the Reds will be looking to add another top-class defender to the side, and maybe add another attacker to the squad.

Now German publication Bild claim Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the 29-year-old midfielder, who has won seven consecutive Bundesliga titles at the Allianz Arena since arriving in Munich in July 2013.

German publication Bild recently claimed Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the 29-year-old midfielder, who has won seven consecutive Bundesliga titles at the Allianz Arena since arriving in Munich in July 2013.

Nicol, though, feels that the Spain international would merely be adding depth on Merseyside if a deal were to be done.

Nicol told ESPN FC: “I’d like to see him at Liverpool because that would mean he’d just be strengthening the squad and strengthening the competition for places.

“If they do sign him, I don’t think he walks into the team. I don’t think he is in the starting eleven. But yes absolutely, the more quality you have and the more competition you have for places.

“At the very least, it keeps everybody on their toes.”

Liverpool have been given a huge transfer boost after Bayer Leverkusen star Wendell revealed Kai Havertz dreams of playing in the Premier League.

Liverpool have been heavily tipped to splash their money in the transfer window and try to acquire the services of Havertz, who has been banging in the goals over in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons.

His performances for Leverkusen has got many fans excited, with many hoping that he will be signed by the club, but they are set for a summer battle with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich as the Spaniards are also reportedly interested in signing the German.

However, Brazilian left-back Wendell claims team-mate Havertz wants to play in England – and will be a roaring success if he moves to the English game

Wendell said: “Psychologically, the Germans are very focused people.

“They are very concentrated on what they want. If he goes to the Premier League, he will learn a lot.

“I think Kai dreams of playing there. He has that desire, and I think he decides to play in England he will be a success.

“He’s a complete player. If you play him as a No9 or No10 a little bit behind, or if you put him out wide, he’ll know what to do.

“He has a facility to understand what the manager wants. He finishes well with both feet. He’s strong with his head, he has good technique.”

Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara “would love Liverpool”, according to former Bayern Munich captain Lothar Matthaus,

Ex-Bayern and Germany midfielder Matthaus thinks the Spaniard has all the attributes to slot into Klopp’s line-up seamlessly, and cannot see him remaining in Bavaria for another season.

“With Thiago, I’m pretty sure the signs are goodbye,” the 59-year-old told Sport Buzzer. “What other reason would he have for not yet accepting Bayern’s offer?

“Liverpool are obviously very keen on him and he would absolutely love the football, the team and fit perfectly with Jurgen Klopp.”

Thiago is a world class player that has all the quality to make it at Liverpool, if the Reds managed to sign the man, he would help take the club to that next level that is for sure.
