Frank McAvennie has told Newcastle United target Billy Gilmour to leave Chelsea on loan again this summer transfer window

Gimour is a player that has alot of potential – but has never really been give the opporuntiy to show that he is capable of playing for Chelsea on a regular basis

The 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season – and there is alot of speculation in the media that the likes of Newcastle – Everton and Aston Villa are all interested in a possible transfer deal

Gilmour is on “stand-by” for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge – according to the latest reports and McVennie has opened up and encouraged the gifted midfielder to leave Stamford Bridge this summer

McAvennie told Football Insider: “When he went down there [to Chelsea] I didn’t think it was a step too far for him.

“I thought he made a great choice because he’s a wonderful talent. Then they put him on loan and it must have been a horrible experience for him to go to Norwich where they were getting battered every week and he wasn’t getting a game.

“It was the wrong team for him to go to. I don’t understand why they put him there, it must have shot his confidence. He’s back and playing and training with world class players now so that should be boosting his confidence.

“I keep saying, it doesn’t matter if he wants to stay at Chelsea. Put him on loan then, he’s got to be somewhere that he’s going to play. It’s a shame for him.“

If Gilmour stays at Chelsea – he may get a few games – but for the majority of the season, he would just be sitting on the bench watching his career pass him by

There are a few clubs interested – so he has options – the best thing for his career would be to leave
