Top Arsenal strory of the week! Mikel works his magic and convinces midfielder Xhaka to be a Gunners this month

Here is the top Arsenal story of the week.

Mikel Arteta has revealed he has convinced Granit Xhaka to stay at the Emirates this month.

We all know that there was a lot of transfer speculation in the media suggesting that Xhaka was heading for the exit signs this month, with reports in the media suggesting that he has agreed a move to German side Hertha Berlin.

It followed a bad few months for the midfielder, who was heavily criticised for his performances in an Arsenal shirt, and was stripped of the captaincy at the club following his outburst towards fans earlier in the season.

But despite the fact that even his agent came out and admitted that personal terms had been agreed with Berlin, Arteta has now revealed that he has convinced Xhaka to stay at the club after a number of positive talks with the star.

“The first message for him was that I wanted to understand how he was feeling, why he was feeling that way,” Arteta said on the Sky Sports website.

“I wanted him to hear from me my opinion on him, and that I was ready to support him and that I was ready to push the club to be supportive of him too, because I thought he could be a really, really good player for us and he could enjoy playing under me in this football club.

“I tried to convince him that way. He thought about it, he had a very positive response afterwards, and I think he changed his mind.”

Look, Arteta is a massive fan of Xhaka and is very happy to keep hold of the man, despite the fact he has been hit and miss since his move to the Emirates just a few seasons ago. But now that Arteta knows that Xhaka is staying, maybe he will be able to start working on bringing in a few new players to the squad?
