Emirates roundup! Barella interest confirmed, Torreira Seria A return, Ozil replaced by Bale in Arsenal news and gossip
Here is the morning roundup of Arsenal news, gossip and transfer talk from icfootballnews.
Fresh reports have again claimed that Maurizio Sarri is keen to bring Cagliari star Nicolo Barella to the club during the next transfer window.
Former midfielder Cesc Fabregas finally ended months of speculation by deciding to leave the club during the January transfer window and link-up with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry at Monaco., as the 31-year old Spaniard was not happy with the contract offer that Chelsea were prepared to offer.
And that left Sarri with a hole in his midfield that he was unable to fill during the final few moments of the transfer window, with Barella just one of a number of possible replacements the Italian wanted to replace Fabregas after he left the club.
But with the possibility of a transfer ban for the next few windows, Sarri is hoping to conclude a few deals in the summer in hope of having a squad that is able to challenge for more than just a top four spot and a Europa league title.
And according to reports on the Corriere dello Sport, the Italian club’s president Tommaso Giulini has revealed that Sarri is interested in a deal to sign the Arsenal and Manchester United target.
‘Barella was never close to a January exit,’ Giulini told the Corriere dello Sport.
‘I cannot deny that there was concrete interest from Napoli in January. Maurizio Sarri also wanted him at Chelsea.
‘As for Inter, that was just a chat, nothing more.’
Gunners legend Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to replace Mesut Ozil with unhappy Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.
Despite signing a massive contract with Arsenal just over a year-ago, there has been constant speculation in the media which have all suggested that Ozil may be leaving the Emirates at the end of this season, after failing to nail down a regular starting spot in Unai Emery’s side.
It is believed that Emery has a style of play which does not fit the style of play that Ozil enjoys, with the German criticised for his work effort in a side that likes to play high-tempo, high-pressure football, which has led to speculation that he could head to America or China.
And with speculation linking Bale away this summer after a disappointing campaign with the Spaniards, there has been some speculation which suggested that Emery could demand some money for the hierarchy to land the former Tottenham man, a transfer that Merson has backed.
Merson told the Daily Mail: ‘Bale would be brilliant at Chelsea as well but that all depends on their transfer embargo. If it’s delayed could they do some kind of swap with Eden Hazard?
‘I think Hazard is going to Real Madrid. He would have signed a new contract by now otherwise. But Bale would not be a bad replacement, would he?
‘I think he suits Arsenal down to the ground as well. If they could get him in and get Mesut Ozil out they’ve had a big result.’
The father of Arsenal star Lucas Torreira has dropped a hint that his son could return to Serie A.
After months of speculation and weeks of transfer talks, Arsenal finally managed to secure a deal for Torreira after the World Cup had finished in a deal that was close to the £30 million mark, a bargain in many peoples eyes.
He has adapted to the pace and quality of the premier Leagued with relative ease and has become a huge part of the season for new boss Unai Emery, who believed Torreira would finally solve the holding midfielder role at the Emirates, something which Arsene Wenger was unable to do towards the end of his reign.
But his father Ricardo has come out and set tongues wagging by admitting that the talented midfielder still harbours a fondness for Italy, and could make a return back to Seria A in the near future.
“Obviously, Lucas is very fond of Italian football, where he grew up, and might return to Italy in future,” Torreira’s father Ricardo said on the Daily Express website.
“You can never say never, so it’s possible he could come back to this marvellous country and, why not to Napoli or another club that makes an offer?”
