Gunners fans will love this after agent officially announces £24m midfielder Torreira wants to be at Arsenal in January
The agent of Lucas Torreira has opened up about the possible Arsenal exit of the midfielder during the January transfer window.
Torreira completed a £26million move from Sampdoria to Arsenal last summer and the 23-year-old had a promising debut season in north London, making 50 appearances in all competitions.
But so far this season the 23-year olf has struggled to kick on after his great first season and has only managed to start three Premier League fixtures under the guidance of Unai Emery, with suggestion she is not happy with life in the English game.
According to Calciomercato, the current uncertainty over his place in the team, coupled with Arsenal’s poor form, could see Torreira leave the club, and the 23-year-old is aware of interest from AC Milan and has already made it clear to Arsenal that he wants them to consider any offers
But Torreira’s representative insists he has never contacted Arsenal to discuss a transfer move, amid reports the midfielder is keen to leave north London: ‘I must say that the change of role has hurt him,’ agent Pablo Bentancur told Calciomercato.
‘He’s no longer at ease and we hope that things can change.’
Asked whether Torreira could leave Arsenal next summer if things do not improve, Bentancur responded: ‘We have no problem with Arsenal, only words of thanks.
‘They allowed Lucas to compete in the Premier League, he has always shown great confidence. Clearly, there is interest for Torreira, especially from Spanish clubs.
‘However, I have never sat down with any club to talk about a transfer. This is because of the great respect we have for the Gunners and their general manager Raul Sanllhei.’
Now Arsenal fans should not worry too much about the words of Torreira, as the young man still has a very long contract at the Emirates and still has many years of playing at the very highest level left in him.
He has been a great buy from the club and will continue to develop into one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League, he just needs the back-line to be sorted out so he doesn’t have to do cover all the mistakes of his team-mates.
So even though he has not had the best start to the season, it is great news that he does not want to leave the Arsenal.
