Wow! Blues star tipped for sensational move to join Conte at Tottenham – Here why
Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has backed Romelu Lukaku to be a potential Harry Kane replacement, if the England captain leaves Spurs in the summer.
Chelsea made the big decision last summer window to bring back Lukaku to the club in a deal worth £98 million as Thomas Tuchel wanted to sign a proven top-class forward
Lukaku become the most deadly striker in Italian football and many fans were hoping that his arrival would bring goals, and along with that, more trophies to add to the cabinet.
However, that has not been the case and Lukaku has looked nothing like the man that dominated Serie A last season, and has even admitted that he simply cannot adapt to the style of play of Tuchel
Spurs are currently thriving under new boss Antonio Conte as they battle it out for the final Champions League spot, and rumours of Kane departing have all but settled.
However, there is still some speculation in the media that there could be a massive offer for the striker in the summer, and if that happens, Bent has tipped Lukaku to lead the line for Conte next season
Speaking on TalkSport, he said: “As long as Antonio Conte’s there, I don’t think Harry Kane would go anywhere,” Bent began.
“But if worse came to worse and Harry Kane did leave, and go elsewhere, if they can get Lukaku, you’ve seen what Conte can get out of Romelu Lukaku.
“Even down to his nutrition, because that was the best I’ve ever seen him look, last season and at the start of this season.
“If there was an opportunity and Kane leaves and Conte can get Lukaku, I’d go out all day to get it, all day.
“I think as someone who has plenty of Premier League experience, there’d be no one better to replace Harry Kane.
“I know they’re completely different in terms of players, Harry Kane dropping in and [is] technically a better footballer, but Lukaku would be an adequate replacement, certainly with what he did with Conte already.
“So, I would.”
