arsenal, asensio

Asensio joined Real Madrid from Real Mallorca in 2014 and has taken in 250 appearances for the Blancos – scoring 52 goals recorded and collecting three La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

Howver – there has been alot of speculation about his future at the club and whether or not he is part of Carlo Ancelotti’s long-term plans – which has alerted a number of top level clubs.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are massive fans of the man and have been linked with a move for the last few transfer windows  -and it was believed that they would get a chance to sign the Spaniard in January or at the end of the season.

However – it seems that Asensio has other plans and has revealed that he wants to renew his contract with the La Liga Champions.

Asensio has recently told Radio Marca: “Do I want to renew? Hopefully it can happen and I’ll be very happy at Real Madrid for many years, hopefully everything will work out so I can stay for 10 more years.
“There is talk that I am changing Real Madrid’s mind. But I have always tried to give the best that I have within me, and then later on people will be know about it.
“The one who decides, too, is the club, it does not only depend on me. After the World Cup, we’ll both make a decision.”

Asensio is a brilliantly gifted midfielder – there is no doubt about that and if he does come onto the market – he will be hot commodity.
But why would he want to leave? He is playing for one of the biggest clubs on the planet – getting enough game time to be happy and winning trophies on a yearly basis – so we can see why he wants to stay.
He is achieving everything he has ever wanted at Madrid – so we can see him agreeing a new contract – even just to be a squad member
