£22 million winger keen to sign for Arsenal as Emery ripped for completing January Suarez deal
Reports have claimed Arsenal are targeting a summer move for Genk winger Leandro Trossard.
After a poor January transfer window in which Unai Emery only managed to complete a loan deal for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, the Gunners are expected to do a number of transfer deals during the summer window to continue improving the squad.
And one player which has become a top target for the Gunners is Trossard, who has been impressing at Genk and is being linked up by a number of clubs around Europe, including German giants Borussia Dortmund, who will need a replacement for Chelsea bound Christian Pulisic.
Now, according to reports on Football.London, Trossard is high on Arsenal’s summer shortlist and the 24-year-old would be keen on a move to Emery’s side.
Meanwhile, Former Tottenham star Tim Sherwood has claimed Suarez was not the player Emery needed during the transfer window.
After months of speculation about whom Arsenal would sign in the winter window, Emery finally convinced the Gunners board to complete a loan deal for Suarez, who has failed to establish himself in the Barcelona side.
Emery believes that Suarez will give the Gunners an extra dimension that has been missing this season, as they bid to get back into a top four spot, But Sherwood has claimed that the midfielder is ‘not the type of player’ Arsenal needed to sign.
He told Sky Sports: ‘[Arsenal’s] best assets are the ones they brought in. ‘They paid top dollar for [Alexandre] Lacazette, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, [Lucas] Torreira, [Matteo] Guendouzi but where are the academy players at Arsenal?
‘They used to bring them through, used to give them an opportunity to play. They don’t even play now, we don’t see them. They’re all loaned out.
‘I just think there is no long-term plan. There is no short-term plan there certainly. If there was one player they didn’t need it was Denis Suarez.
‘They needed a defender, they need to go all-out for a centre-half but they didn’t bring one in.’
Do you guys agree with Sherwood?
