Arsenal make offer for winger, Gunners interested in Umtiti, £72m deal slammed, boss hints at possible winger exit
Arsenal make Joelson offer, Umtiti interest, Pepe deal slammed, Zaha on the move in Arsenal news roundup…
Jermaine Jenas has opened up and described Nicolas Pepe’s signing as “bad business” for Arsenal.
Pepe was signed by the Arsenal last summer in hope that he could come in and be a real superstar for the side, especially after an impressive season saw him break the 20-goal barrier last season.
But so far Arsenal fans have only seen glimpses on how good Pepe could be, with his performances lacking conviction and quality in the first half of the season for the club.
He has been hit and miss since the re-start of the football and now fans are starting to believe that he is not worth that £72 million and the money spent by the board could have been used in a better way.
When asked if Pepe would be considered among the league’s biggest flops from last summer transfer window when taking his £72m fee into account, Jenas said on the SUN: “Oh yeah. That’s up there with Joelinton.
“It is the money, it is as simple as that. The amount of money spent on him in terms of what he has delivered and what you can actually see.
“A lot of people talk about Thierry Henry’s first season at Arsenal and it didn’t quite go for him straight away.
“They kind of lean on that a lot in these type of signings.
“But I’ve just not seen it with this particular player and it looks like bad business.”
Roy Hodgson has hinted that long-term Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha could move away from Crystal Palace this summer transfer window.
Zaha was in the headlines over the summer transfer window for all the right reasons, as some of the biggest clubs in the game showed an interest in the wingers signature after another impressive campaign for Palace.
However, despite admitting on numerous occasions that he is interested in a big move, Palace stuck a massive price tag on the head of the winger and nobody wanted to pay the massive £80 million price tag that was placed on the winger.
And in the end ex-Gunners boss Unai Emery decided to pay a massive £72 million to secure a club record deal for Nicolas Pepe, who was seen as more of a goal threat after an impressive 23-goals last season.
Zaha has been forgiven for feeling disappointed at missing out on another step up ladder – especially with his emotional ties to Arsenal taken into account, but it seems that he could look to move on this transfer window.
Hodgson was quoted on Sky Sports: “Wilf has made it clear ever since I came to the club really that he would relish a move and would like to move on and find some pastures new, but he is a very valuable player.
“The club realises his value and appreciates his value so really it will depend like it always does on what offers the club are going to receive for him and how they will equate that to the need to keep him or the need to satisfy his wishes and allow him to go.
Arsenal have reportedly made a £13.6million ($17.4m) offer for Sporting winger Joelson Fernandes, with his agent to fly in to open talks with the Portuguese club next week
With Mikel Arteta seeking to improve a number of key areas of the pitch this summer transfer window, there has been alot of speculation in the media that he wants to spend some serious money to acquire the services of a new defender.
the results may have picked up for the Arsenal before the coronavirus outbreak stopped football, but the Gunners have still conceded over 50 goals in the Premier League, and needs work ahead of next season.
But despite many calls from the media and fans to go out and spend the limited money that they may have on players that will improve the squad, and that back-line, it seems that Arsenal cannot get away from their old ways.
According to reports on FOOTBALL.LONDON, Arsenal are hoping to beat off a whole host of clubs to try and secure a deal for winger Joelson, by putting £13.6 million on the table for the Portuguese side to consider.
The 17-year-old has shown a reluctance to sign a new deal with the Portuguese side, which may force them to cash-in on the youngster this summer.
Fresh reports have again claimed Arsenal are interested in bringing Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti to the Emirates this summer.
With Mikel Arteta looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Arsenal boss is seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.
Arsenal have already shipped too many goals this season and are in need of adding an experienced defender to that back-line in order to shore the the defence for next season.
A knee injury, which required surgery, saw the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet last season, and reports suggested Barcelona are willing to allow him to depart the club for the right amount of money.
However, Umtiti has come out on a number of occasions and stated his desire to stay and fight for his Barcelona future, pretty much putting an end to the chase for Arsenal, who have seemingly switched their transfer attentions.
But with Barcelona seeking to offload a number of players in the transfer market, Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Arsenal may reignite their interest in the Frenchman if they can get him on a loan deal, or a smaller fee than the £50 million Barca reportedly want.
The reports also suggests that The Catalan club will also be prepared to let their centre-back leave if they can secure the signing of Eric Garcia, from under the noses of Manchester City.
Yes Umtiti is still young enough to develop and yes he has won a number of trophies, but he is not the same player he was a few seasons ago and could struggles to adapt to the pace and quality of the Premier league.
He would not be the man that would help solve the issues at the back for the club, not anymore.
