£50 million Samuel Umtiti officially opens up about joining Emery at Arsenal
Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti has laughed off suggestions that Arsenal made an offer for him during the summer transfer window.
With Emery looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Spanish boss was seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.
A knee injury, which required surgery, has seen the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet, and reports suggested Barcelona were willing to allow him to depart the club during the summer window.
And reports even suggested that Emery was willing to spend around £50 million to try and secure a deal for the Barcelona defender, after the Spaniard admitted that he is interested in potentially signing the defender.
However, in a sit-down interview with Canal Football Club on Sunday, Umtiti was shown a clip of old Lyon teammate Alexandre Lacazette trying to set up a reunion at Arsenal, but only burst out laughing at the idea of a move to Arsenal
‘Honestly, I don’t know where this rumour with Arsenal came from,’ he said in response to the video.

‘Overnight, I received messages from my friends saying, “Ah, so you are joining Arsenal?” I’m not, I’m sorry but I’m staying at Barcelona.’
There is no doubt that Emery improved the Arsenal squad during the summer transfer window and he now has an attack that is up there with some of the games very best. But adding someone like Umtiti should have been, and should still be, his priority in the coming windows.
Umtiti would have been a great signing for the club, that is no doubt, so it will be disheartening for Gunners fans that he was not interested in leaving Barcelona for Arsenal.
But there are still many top-class players out there that would fancy a move to Arsenal, THEY JUST HAVE TO MAKE THEIR MOVE AND OFFER THE RIGHT MONEY.
And you never know, Umtiti may be interested if he game time at the Nou Camp gets worse.
