Man United fans ‘excited’ as Red Devils on verge of £48M signing

Manchester United fans have erupted online following reports that the club are on the verge of signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson in a €48 million deal, with excitement, cautious optimism, and the usual dose of humour flooding social media.

News that United are close to finalising what would be their first major summer signing under new head coach Michael Carrick quickly spread across X, Reddit, and fan forums, with many supporters welcoming the idea of a dynamic midfield addition.

The Brazilian’s reputation as a high-energy, box-to-box midfielder has particularly impressed fans who feel United have lacked athleticism and control in midfield.

On X, one Manchester United supporter summed up the optimism bluntly: “Ederson for €48m? Get it done. We’ve needed legs in midfield for years.” Another wrote, “If this is real, Carrick is cooking.

Proper modern midfielder finally.” Others highlighted his versatility, with one post reading, “Can play 6 or 8, tackles, carries, passes. Exactly what we’ve been crying out for.”

On Reddit’s r/reddevils, reaction leaned heavily positive, with one highly upvoted comment stating: “40m for a 26-year-old who can do DM/CM duties? That’s smart business, not panic buying.” Another fan added, “Stop overthinking it. He’s a workhorse. We’ve missed that engine in midfield since peak Fred energy died off.”
