Coutinho helping Liverpool sign £70m star, Man United deal for striker ‘pretty much done’ , £150m beats signing perfect for United (Video)
Here is a roundup of the latest Manchester United and Liverpool news from icfootballnews.
Mario Mandzukic’s move to Manchester United is “pretty much signed and sealed”, according to Liverpool legend Steve Nicol.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer done some decent business during the summer transfer window and spent well over £100 million on signing players that he hoped would come in and help the Red Devils get back challenging for more than a top four spot in the Premier League.
But despite all that money being spent by the United hierarchy, they failed to add a top-class striker to the attack, meaning Solskjaer has not had the fire-power up top to lead the attack over the first few weeks of the season, especially after they sold Romelu Lukaku.
But all indications suggest that United will delve into their transfer kitty during the January window and try to sign a few more players that could come in and help turn their season around, with Mandzukic on the shopping list.
United were close to signing the Croatia international during the summer – but Ed Woodward pulled the plug – thinking £14million was too much to pay for a 33-year-old, but with Juventus keen to offload a number of players in the coming windows to freshen up the squad, Nicol has claimed that a move to Old Trafford during the January window is ‘preet much signed and sealed’
“I think it happens and I think it’s pretty much signed and sealed as well,” Nicol told ESPN FC. “So yeah I don’t think there’s any question this is a hit.
“It’s something that United need but let’s be honest, it’s going against all the nonsense they gave us at the start of the season about youth – yeah right. Mandzukic, an old campaigner, experienced. He will come in for a short period of time and do a good job.”
Philippe Coutinho could have a big hand in Liverpool signing Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, German football expert Kevin Hatchard claims.
Liverpool are easily regarded as one of the finest sides in the game right now as Jurgen Klopp has put together a side that is on the verge of winning their first title in over 30-years, just a year after guiding the Reds to a shock Champions League win over Premier League rivals Tottenham.
And there is some talk that Klopp is still keen to add some much needed experience and quality to his side, with Muller firmly on the radar of the German boss.
After 19 years with the club, Bild report that Muller has decided to leave after growing tired of a lack of playing time under Kovac, as Muller has started just three league games this term and has lost his spot in the side to Philippe Coutinho, who joined the club from Barcelona last summer.
The German’s current deal runs until 2021 and it has been reported that the German giants would be seeking a massive £70 million to let one of the biggest players go, especially as they will want to use those funds to help on improve the current side.
“I think there is a genuine discomfort for Muller at the moment because he’s been on the bench for the last five games,” he said on BILD
“People go on about his goal output has dropped, but you look at the assists, he is still very much involved in a lot of the good stuff Bayern can do. He’s in a position he’s never really been in at Bayern which is somebody who is having to really scrap for a starting spot.
“The arrival of Coutinho has put him under pressure because Muller operates in that No.10 role. It’s probably the biggest challenge of Muller’s career.
“I still think he is a very, very good footballer and any top Premier League team would benefit from having him in the building. The fluid nature of it would appeal to Muller, without question because his movement is incredible.
“He’s so elusive, he picks up positions a lot of players simply don’t and I think he’d be a huge boost to Liverpool.
There has been some reports which have claimed Manchester United are lining up a big move for a defender in the coming windows, and we have the perfect suggestion.
It is no secret that United failed to sign any world class players during the summer transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was only given a small budget to mess around with during the final stages of the window.
However, if United seriously want to get back challenging for that Premier League title once again, then Solskjaer needs to get the backing from the board and honestly land one of the games very best defenders, and although he would cost £150 million, the idea signing would be Kalidou Koulibaly.
We have an update on the big beast and just why he would be perfect for United
