Neville on world class Man United deal, £100m move to be made in January, United interested in £80 million deal
Here is a roundup of the latest Manchester United news from icfootballnews.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has told David De Gea that he hopes to see an improvement from the Spaniard now that he has signed a new deal.
Regarded as one of the finest stoppers in the game right now, there has been a lot of speculation in the media about the future of De Gea, as there have been some big clubs linked with a move as he simply could not agree terms with the United.
However, the Spanish star ended all those rumours by finally agreeing a new contract with the club which adds another three years on top of his current deal, with reports suggesting that he will now be paid around £250,000-a-week.
Asked by Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher how big a positive the announcement was, Neville said on the Sky Sports website: ‘I’ve got to believe it’s good news. ‘He’s had a difficult time in the Premier League. When players are distracted it doesn’t help.
‘He’s lost his place in the national team and made more mistake for Manchester United than ever before. ‘But now he’s signed you hope that settles him down and he starts performing.
‘Manchester United need a spine. They haven’t got a strong, dominant spine. De Ge can be the start of that. But his performances have dipped recently.’
De Gea told the official club website: “It has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club and the opportunity to continue my career at Manchester United is a genuine honour.
“Since I arrived here, I could never have imagined I would play over 350 games for this club. Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together.
“As one of the senior players in the squad, I want to support and lead in any way that I can to assist the younger players, so they know what it means to play here. I still feel that I have so much more to achieve at the club and I truly believe that Manchester United can build on the club’s tradition of success and reward our fans for their support.
“I am committed to continue repaying the fans for all of the care that they’ve shown me during the good times and the bad.”
Manchester United supremo Ed Woodward is ready to raid Leicester again this January for midfielder James Maddison.
Maddison has been making all the right noises in the Premier League over the past few seasons and his performances have led to a lot of transfer speculation that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham were interested in a summer transfer deal.
However, both were not willing to match the high asking price that Leicester had placed on the head of Maddison, which is believed to be around £60 million, and that meant that Maddison had to stay put for at least another season.
However, The playmaker has been in fine form for the Foxes at the beginning of this season and was one of their star men last year as well, and reports suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well as Woodward see Maddison as the perfect acquisition.
The ESPN claim United will make a bid for the former Norwich man in January although they expect no deal will materialise until next summer.
Maddison is expected to cost similar to the £80million the Red Devils splurged on Harry Maguire during the summer transfer window, a fee that many believe may be too much for the now England International.
Maddison has already showed glimpses of why he is so highly rated in the Premier League by many of the Leagues best clubs, but United need more of a big named player than someone that still needs a good few years of developing.
Splashing more than £50 million would be a massive mistake by United as they will need their funds in the coming windows to help improve other areas of the pitch, but if they can get him for anything less than that, he may be a good buy.
Fresh reports have again claimed that Manchester United are lining up a January move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
The 19-year-old England international, who left Manchester City to join the Bundesliga outfit in 2017, emerged as a top summer target for United, but Dortmund refused to sell and United were not prepared to pay such a big amount for the youngster.
The lad is a creative force and was one of the top assist players in Europe last season, and considering United are in need of adding some much needed excitement, goals and creativity on the wings, the lad is growing into their perfect signing.
in August Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed he turned down an approach for the England international from a “super club” earlier this year, and Director Michael Zorc came out and admitted that United had a meeting about a possible deal.
“A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United,” Zorc said in the Amazon Prime documentary’ ‘Inside Borussia Dortmund’
“Both his discussions with the club and mine with the agent, a meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the agent.
“According to what I know, the agent told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won’t let him go this summer.
“The player also has no intention of taking that step this summer .”
Now the according to reports on ESPN website, The Norwegian is understood to be keen to continue his current transfer strategy of bringing the best British youngsters to Old Trafford and is keen on trying to nail down Sancho.
