‘Dangerous signing’ Arsenal fans sent worrying message over new signing
Matthew Upson has slammed summer Arsenal signing David Luiz, claiming he has a mistake in him.
After months of speculation and rumours, Gunners boss Unai Emery shocked the whole of the Premier League on transfer deadline day when he decided to make a shock £8 million offer to Chelsea for the services of Brazilian defender Luiz.
Luiz was supposed to be helping the Blues into a new era at Stamford Bridge and only recently signed a new contract, but media speculation suggested that he and Frank Lampard has a disagreement during the summer window and Luiz pushed for a move to the Emirates.
The 32-year-old was part of a busy summer of signings for Arsenal who spent more than £130m, including £72m on Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe to break their club-record transfer fee, but despite many suggesting that Luiz will be a very good buy for the Gunners, Upson has slammed the former Chelsea star and claimed that he is not the Brazilian’s biggest fan.
“I’m not his biggest fan, I’m really not,” he said on The Debate.
“I think he has done well, I think for Arsenal it’s a good, established centre-back with experience.
“He’s did well against Burnley, but I agree with Joleon [Lescott], that he can just go walkabout at times in terms of mentally. He just switches off.
“Whether that’s just a moment in a game or for a longer period of time depending on what happens.
“So I think from that point of view it could be a dangerous signing.
“Hopefully it works out and they’ll get the best out of him.”
There are good point and bad points to having Luiz in the side, but on his good days, he can be one of the best defenders in the game and that is what Emery is hoping that he has brought for that £8 million.
Only time will tell if Luiz turns out to be a good signing for the club, but Gunners fans should be worried as he will cost the club some vital points this season, that is just the type of player he is, and has been over the past ten years.
