Gunners in £35m talks, Valencia drops hint, Emery has message for Ramsey in Arsenal Friday news and gossip
Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews
Reports have emerged and claimed that Arsenal are in talks to sign Ajax winger David Neres, who is also on the shopping list of Manchester United.
Unai Emery may have spent over £70 million in his first summer transfer window, but he is expected to be handed around £100 million in the coming transfer window as the Gunners hierarchy are aiming to get the club back challenging for the Premier League title, and latter stages of the Champions League.
And with the likes of Aaron Ramsey heading for Juventus and Danny Welbeck not getting a new contract with the club, it is clear that Emery will need to add to his attack in the coming months, with the very impressive Neres now on the shopping list after helping Ajax get back to the very top of the game.
The 22-year-old has been in sublime form for the Dutch club this season with 12 goals and 15 assists so far, while his latest strike came in the 1-1 draw against Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday evening and he has also been rewarded for his fine performances with a call-up to the Brazilian National side.
The Brazilian has caught the attentions of a number of sides across Europe, but according to The Daily Telegraph, Arsenal have begun negotiations with Ajax over a potential deal with some reports even suggesting they could go as high as £40 million to secure a transfer deal. (Read more)
Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia has hinted that he could be signing for Major League Soccer side DC United, ahead of a possible move to Arsenal.
The 33-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season and United have not taken their option for extending it for a further 12 months, which means that he is all set to pack his bags and walk away from the club after a decade of top-level service for the Red Devils.
And that led to shock speculation that Arsenal boss Unai Emery may be interested in taking him to the Emirates on a short-term deal, as the Spanish boss is keen to provide some much needed back-up to the injury prone Hector Bellerin, as Stephen Lichsteiner has not impressed like many had hoped.
However, Valancia has stoked the fire that he could be on his way to the MLS at the end of the season after the full-back retweeted and liked a fan hoping the news is true that he would be linking up with Rooney at DC United.
The tweet the fan quote tweeted from an Ecuadorian outlet says in Spanish: “Based on a special request from one of them, the Manchester United goalscoring duo will become a reality again in the capital of the United States. Two-year contract about to be finalized with D.C. United.”
A winger earlier in his United career, Valencia has spent more time at right back in recent seasons. Strong, quick and durable, he’s earned nearly 100 caps for his country, including several appearances at the 2006 and 2014 World Cups. (Read more)
Unai Emery praised an “awesome” display from Aaron Ramsey after he helped Arsenal beat Napoli 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.
After over a decade at the Emirates, Ramsey could not agree a new contract with the club as some reports suggested that he was asking way more than what the Gunners were prepared to offer, and he is not all set to leave the club at the end of the season and play in Seria A.
Ramsey had a whole load of attention shown in him after it was revealed that he would not be signing a new contract at the club, but Italian Champions Juventus were the club that finally secure his services, with some reports even suggesting that he has signed a massive £350,000-a-week deal with the club.
However, he has been fully focused on playing for Arsenal over the past few months and has put in some impressive performances to leave Emery doubting whether or not it was the right decision to let him leave, and after seeing the Welshman put in another solid performance, Ramsey couldn’t help but admit his performances ‘was awesome’
Asked about Ramsey’s performance, Gunners boss Emery said on the Sky Sports website: “Awesome. I think he wants to do something important with us, to help us do something important because I think he feels all Arsenal.” (Read more)
