Virgil Van Dijk has backed Feyenoord boss Arne Slot to take over Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp leaves the club.
There has been so much speculation over the past few weeks about who could replace Klopp – but it now seems that Arne Slot is the man that will be replacing the LIVERPOOL Great.
Slot has impressed with the Dutch side. Slot guided the team to victory in the KNVB Cup final last weekend and also won the league title in 2022-23.
And ahead of his possible move to Anfield – Liverpool Captain Van Dijk has opened up and backed his fellow Dutchman to be a success at the club if he makes the move.
He told ViaPlay: “I think Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment. With the way he plays and the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach. But I read and hear that it is far from complete.
‘We shall see. We will focus on that next season, but that is still a long way off.
Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan has claimed that Feyenoord boss Arne Slot will bring sexy football to Liverpool
He told ESPN: “I think it is logical that he is in such a good position. It is very special how he has manifested himself in recent years and has really given Feyenoord a face.
We responded by extending his contract. In any case, we assume that he will also be our trainer next year. We have experienced this situation before and will take good care of our own interests.”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan said:
“Arne Slot is the prime candidate for Liverpool. It was only a matter of time before another big English club would come knocking on the door. He’s not only been a successful manager he’s also been hugely impressive with his playing style of very attack-minded football, Pep Guardiola-style football.
“I don’t expect Feyenoord to stand in the way. They know he’s a manager in demand but they will demand a big compensation fee. He has two years left on his contract that was a record deal.
“Never before in Dutch football has a team paid a manager such huge wages. The players like him, the fans love him, the club love him – they won’t want him to go. Feyenoord have every right to demand a big fee as there is no clause in his contract which he renewed last year.
“He’s been a successful coach and made Feyenoord champions playing crazy, sexy football. It is sexy what this man brings on a football pitch. There’s nothing more to win for him here. The next step for him is to enter a club in a big league and no league is bigger for the Dutch than the Premier League.
‘I will be surprised if Slot doesn’t bite at this chance and become the manger of LIVERPOOL next season.”
