Defender on why he signed with Chelsea, Tuchel makes £88m request, German opens door to Chelsea move, Varane issues transfer message
Tuchel makes Varane request, Ginter opens door to transfer deal, Ziyech told to leave, Varane addresses rumours in Chelsea roundup…
Reports have claimed that Chelsea are ready to meet the £88 million asking price of Real Madrid for defender Raphael Varane.
Tuchel has done a wonderful job as boss of Chelsea since his arrival just a few months ago and they are now on course to get back inside that top four spot, while also add a trophy to the cabinet in the Champions League or FA Cup.
But now Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders, according to German publication Bild, due to Thomas Tuchel’s interest in the player.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of 2022 and Madrid do not want to lose one of the clubs most important players for nothing, so they would reportedly be more willing to sell in the transfer window this time around.
Varane, for his part, is said to be open to a new challenge having spent a decade at the Bernabeu, but there has been a feeling that Chelsea could have been put off by his massive asking price.
But according to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea are now leading the race to sign him and are ready to pay his massive asking price at the request of Tuchel.
Last week, Madrid President Florentino Perez gave Varane the green light to leave the club at the end of the season: “Varane? I’m happy with our team… if players don’t want to stay at Madrid they can leave,’ said Perez on AS.
Perez was the brains behind the European Super League and the Spaniard is not giving up hope that the proposal can go ahead, even withstanding the withdralls of the six Premier League clubs.
Long-term Chelsea target Matthias Ginter admits that a lack of European football for Borussia Monchengladbach in 2021-22 could edge him through the exits.
Ginter is among those approaching the final 12 months of their current deals, with free agency beckoning for him in 2022, and Chelsea, who will be in need of improving that back-line in the summer, have been long-time linked with the powerful German.
And the talented 27-year old is eager to ensure that he continues turning out at the very highest level, with there a possibility that he may have to leave Gladbach after four years with the club in order to make that happen.
Now, he has come out and admitted that the lack of European football at Gladbach could mean that he makes the move in the transfer window and joins one of the clubs that are showing a real interest in his services.
Ginter has told Sky Deutschland: “Basically everyone wants to play in Europe.
“But there are a few other criteria that play a role. That’s why we’ll see what happens with the coaching team.
“There have been no talks about it yet. I’m very, very open to staying here.
Ginter should be playing for one of the big clubs already, but the fact that he hasnt been over the last few seasons has been a shock. So the news that he is now open to a possible exit will surely put Chelsea back on full alert.
Thomas Tuchel wants to improve that back-line and adding a defender that is comfortable in a number of positions would be a real asset to the squad over the course of the next few seasons.
This will be an interesting one to watch guys.
Marco van Basten has urged Hakim Ziyech to leave Chelsea this summer as Thomas Tuchel is the ‘wrong’ manager for him
Ziyech was one of the big signings from Frank Lampard last summer after establishing himself as one of the most creative, attacking and best wingers in world football, and to be honest, many Chelsea fans expected big things from the former Ajax star.
However, injury and a lack of form has seen Ziyech feature in just over half of Chelsea’s league matches, and he is struggling to get the starts at the club that he would like under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel.
And Van Basten believes Ziyech should seek to leave the Blues this summer as he did not join the club to sit on the bench: ‘Ziyech again on the bench,’ said Van Basten.
‘When he gets in, that’s like a striker. He can do that too, because he is just a good player. I am sad to see rotation… He’s just not in the right place.
‘That Werner plays really badly, but doesn’t he come in much more often? The system this trainer plays is just not good for Ziyech. Then as Ziyech you have to say:
‘You know what? I have to plead [to leave]. ‘It is now about Ziyech because I have nothing to do with that man. This is not getting along like that. I’m not saying it’s bad for Ziyech or bad for that trainer, but it doesn’t work like that.’
Ziyech is a man that has struggled to keep fit this season and will surely want to stay in the summer to prove that he does have the ability to play for one of the big clubs in world football.
It would be a shock to see him depart the Bridge in the summer.
Raphael Varane has addressed his contract situation amid reports that Chelsea are seeking a £100 million deal.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of 2022 and reports have claimed Madrid are open to the idea of letting the Frenchman leave, but do not want to lose one of the clubs most important players for nothing, so they would reportedly be more willing to sell in the transfer window this time around.
But amid all the speculation, the Frenchman insists he isn’t looking that far ahead, Varane told a press conference: “My future is clear. I am focused on the end of this season.
“We are in a very intense and key moment.”
Pressed on whether he wants to remain at the Bernabeu beyond 2022, the 28-year-old responded: “It is normal that my focus is on the end of the season. The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team.
“We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field.”
Look, if Chelsea are interested in adding another defender to that back-line in the summer, then they would be very wise to spend their money to try and land Varane. He really is that good of a defender a player that would help send a statement to the rest of the Premier League.
England International Ben Chilwell has admitted that he joined Chelsea to play in the big games.
Chilwell is easily regarded as one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League right now, and after his move to the Bridge, he now has seven assists and three goals this season as he fights for a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up for England at Euro 2020.
And after establishing himself in this Chelsea side, Chilwell has now opened up and revealed just why he signed with Chelsea, Speaking to talkSPORT, Chilwell said: “This is the reason I came to Chelsea. You want to be playing in so-called cup finals every week when you’re challenging for top four.
“We’ve got Real Madrid on Tuesday, which is stuff as a kid you dream about and we’ve got a cup final.
“It’s a reason I came to Chelsea and we’re excited. Every week is going to be an important game when we are challenging for silverware and top four.
“The Euros on top of that as well, we’re hoping to capitalise on that.”
The win over West Ham this week cemented Chelsea’s grip on a top-four place and the importance of the game was not lost on the players: “(It was) massive. Both teams are fighting for top four.
“We’re roughly on the same number of points, so we knew whoever won today would have a good chance of getting in the top four.
“Thankfully we won and we knew before the game the importance of it. The clean sheet is massive and to get the goal we were happy for Timo (Werner).”
