Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham makes transfer admission – coy on possible signing of £86M man

Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham has been speaking about the club’s continued pursuit of improving their squad – and hinted at a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk

The Premier League leaders have already seen two offers for the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder rejected but remain in talks with the Ukrainian club.

Arsenal’s most recent offer is thought to have been worth around £60m, falling considerably short of the player’s valuation, as Donetsk reportedly want around £86 million for their star man.

Mudryk has travelled to Turkey on Shakhtar’s mid-season training camp following the winter break in the Ukrainian top-flight, but that has not stopped all the rumours that Arsenal are still keen to make sure that he is a Gunners by the end of the window.

Now, amid all the speculation – Venkatesham has been speaking about the club’s continued pursuit of improving their squad – and was coy on their pursuit of Mudryk.

“We’ve got a very clear plan, headed up by Edu, in terms of what we want to do to strengthen the squad,” Venkatesham said on Sky Sports

“Every transfer window of course, we’re going to look to see what opportunities are out there.

“If something makes sense from a technical perspective and a financial perspective, of course we’ll look at it but we’re happy with the squad that we’ve got.

“We’ll have a look around like we do in every transfer window but we’ve got a long-term plan.”

When pressed on whether Arsenal were any closer to signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk, Venkatesham added: “You know the answer I’m going to give you. We’re not going to talk about specific players.”

There is so much hype around Mudryk – but it seems that all the big clubs that were interested, are now no longer interested, but Arsenal still are.

He is not yet worth the money that is being talked about and could be another Nicolas Pepe, so why take the risk once again when there are players in the Premier League that would be better signings?
