Gunners icon Patrick Vieira addresses rumours Arsenal could sign £85M star in January window
Amid all the latest ARSENAL fc transfer rumours surrounding a possible move for Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres – Patrick Vieira has come out and told his former club to sign a striker like Erling Haaland
Swede Gyokeres has been a major hit in Portugal since joining Sporting from Coventry in July 2023 and become one of the most dangerous strikers in World football, hitting 43 goals for the club last season.
He was a player that ARSENAL were very heavily linked with signing during the summer window, but his massive asking price was a real problem for the Gunners, and in the end, the decision was not made to make a move for the striker.
Gyokeres now heading for exit after Amorim departure?
Gyokeres is one of a number of Sporting CP players who could leave the Portuguese club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure, with Arsenal likely to chase the former Coventry striker once again.
O Jogo reports that Gyokeres’ is “dissatisfied” with the decision of the head coach to depart for Manchester United, as the Portuguese boss was one of the main reasons that he stayed in the summer window.
What has Vieira said?
‘The question is whether ARSENAL can reach their goals with a genuine goalscorer or a false No.9,’ the Frenchman said.
‘Havertz has performed well since the season’s start and has the potential to fill that role.
‘But as Manchester City have shown, having a pure striker like Haaland makes winning games easier.’
Is Gyokeres heading to Arsenal?
If he wants to leave Sporting, Arsenal are the right club to make a move too right now as they are surely the team that will take the title away from Man City this season. But maybe the January window is too early.
It is always a risk to sign big players midway through the season and that is why Mikel Arteta will probably wait until the summer to add a new forward to his attack, but Gyokeres would more than be open for a move to the Emirates.
And for the right price – he could be a great buy.
