Boss addresses rumours attacker heading back to Arsenal in January

Porto manager Vitor Bruno has dismissed suggestions that on-loan midfielder Fabio Vieira could be recalled by ARSENAL after Bukayo Saka picked up an injury that could keep him out for a while.

Saka has once again been brilliant for the Gunners this season, but he was forced off during Arsenal’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace on December 21 and missed the victory over Ipswich Town on Friday night.

Mikel Arteta initially said Saka would be out for ‘many weeks’ but then revealed his player had undergone surgery, meaning he might not be back until March. Saka posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed on Saturday evening after his operation and vowed to come back stronger from the setback.

That has led to some reports which suggested that Arsenal were prepared to bring back Fabio Vieira to help cover the injury to Saka.

Vieira, a €40 million (£34.2m) signing for Arsenal in 2022, returned to Porto on loan in the summer having struggled to make an impact in his first two seasons with Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 24-year-old has started in Porto’s last five matches but was left out of the squad entirely for their 4-0 win at home to Boavista

But Bruno has confirmed Vieira was dropped due to “certain principles” and rubbished reports that his loan deal could be cut short: “Fabio knows me well and we are counting on him,” said the Porto boss. “He will be available to play again next week”.

Vieira does not want to play for ARSENAL anymore, he wants that permanent move away from the club in the coming transfer windows, and he will not want to return to the Emirates to sit on the bench.

This is the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to add to that front line and add something different to the attack
