West Ham have ‘very good chance’ of signing brilliant £40M star
West Ham United have a very good chance of signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez this summer window, it has been claimed.
It was announced last weekend that Declan Rice is leaving the club and joining Arsenal in a deal worth £105 million – meaning the Hammers will have some serious to spend this summer.
And after the confirmation that Rice is leaving – WEST HAM have already started making their moves to try and sign some replacements for their star man.
WHAT IS THE LATEST –
The Football.London website has claimed that West Ham have now contacted Ajax over a possible deal for Alvarez.
The 25-year-old Mexican international has spent the last four seasons in Amsterdam, racking up 147 appearances for the club and scoring 13 goals while winning two Eredivisie titles.
According to the reports, West Ham could land him for a fee of around £40 million – less than half of the fee that the Hammers are due to receive from the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal
He extended his contract in 2021, with that deal expiring in 2025, so the Hammers will need to convince the man that a move to London is the right one.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –
Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk has told GIVEMESPORT: “Bayern Munich also had him on the radar — and still — but it’s not so hot.
‘He’s not the only one in this position — and it would only happen after everything is done with Kane and perhaps Kyle Walker — so he’s not the first option. For West Ham, they have the money and Ajax want to see money, so they have a good chance.”
WILL HE BE A GOOD SIGNING FOR WEST HAM?
Losing a player like Declan Rice will be a massive blow for the club – he really is one of the best in the Premier League.
But now that West Ham have the money to splash and sign players to replace Rice – they need to pick the right players.
Alvarez is a very good midfielder that can also play centre-back – but he is not the man that will help replace Declan Rice and we feel that he could struggle in the Premier League.
WEST HAM may sign the man – but they need more.
