West Ham get £80M transfer boost as defensive leader tipped for transfer move
Paul Robinson has claimed Luke Shaw’s form could force West Ham target Harry Maguire into leaving Man United this year
The England international starred at the World Cup for the Three Lions, but Luke Shaw has started over him at centre-back in Man United’s first two league games since the mid-season break.
There had been some speculation in the media that Chelsea are plotting a shock move for the Englishman this transfer window as they seek to cover their defensive issues and add another defender to the squad.
But it is the Hammers that have seemingly made the first move to try and get a deal done, according to recent reports on the Daily Mail. who have claimed that the West Ham board contacted Man United over a possible loan deal for Maguire.
Nonetheless, Erik ten Hag wants to keep the defender for the remainder of the season and has rejected the advances of the London outfit.
Now – Robinson has opened up and claimed that the incredible form of Luke Shaw this season could force Maguire to leave the club – after the English left-back established himself as an integral member of that squad – Robinson said: “Shaw has been incredible.
“He has been given an opportunity at centre-half recently and he has taken it with both hands.
“I never thought of him being a centre-half but now you watch him there, he has all of the credentials. He deserves all of his plaudits.
“You wonder where it leaves Maguire though. Shaw and [Lisandro] Martinez are ahead of him in the pecking order now.
“Maguire was great at the World Cup. But, he has come back and is not playing. I question where his future lies. He has a left-back playing ahead of him. I think his time at Man United is up.”
