West Ham told offering Declan Rice will get signing of £50m star done and dusted
Noel Whelan has claimed the “only way” West Ham can sign Kalvin Phillips is by offering Man City the chance to sign Declan Rice
At Leeds – Phillips established himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League – and that prompted Man City boss Pep Guardiola to take him to the Etihad.
However – the move has not quite worked out and he has struggled to make an impact -with a number of injuries keeping him on the sidelines more often that he would have hoped for.
That has led to stunning reports in the media that West Ham are eyeing up a stunning deal for the midfielder – especially as they are seeking a replacement for the much talked about Declan Rice.
However – West Ham have been told that the only way that they will be able to complete a deal for Phillips is by offering Rice to Pep Guardiola – as they Premier League Champions are keen on the man.
Whelan told Football Insider: “It might be difficult for him to agree to leave so early into his time at Man City.
“West Ham will want him to replace Rice.
“The only way I can see that happening is if Rice goes the opposite way. I think that is a possibility.
“I think both sides could come away with what they want if City were to come in with a player swap – plus some money.
“There’s a deal to be done there. West Ham have always had their eye on Phillips as their replacement for Rice – so watch this space.
“It’s not been the smoothest start for him at City, so this could be one to keep an eye on.”

We can see Rice joining Man City as a move up is what he needs – but Phillips may feel that a move to the Hammers could be a step down and may not be interested in a move to London Stadium
