Is Gakpo coming to the Premier League?

Joe Cole has told the likes of Arsenal that they may have to pay close to £80 million to sign PSV star Cody Gakpo – and he could be the ideal man to solve their Gabriel Jesus issue

Mikel Arteta is undoubtedly wants to bolster his wing options after Arsenal’s failed pursuits of Raphinha and Pedro Neto in the summer – and Gakpo is a player that has caught the eye of the Spaniard.

PSV reportedly value Gakpo at £40m, a fee that hasn’t changed since the summer despite his electric start to the current campaign.

He’s registered 13 goals and 17 assists in in all competitions for PSV this season and is reportedly a player that Mikel Arteta would love to add to his squad

But while his valuation is expected to soar, former Chelsea star Cole recently claimed he will be worth the investment.

‘He has [put his name out there],’ Cole told ITV following Netherlands’ 2-0 win over Qatar.

‘I know there have been scouts watching him, he has come to the tournament, and he is fearless. Great movement for the goal and fantastic finishing. He is going to be on everyone’s wish list.

Asked by former Netherlands international Nigel de Jong if he would pay £80m for Gakpo, Cole added: ‘I would, 100 per cent.

‘Because he’s young, we know there is value in youth, if he doesn’t quite work out you are going to cut your losses elsewhere, but he looks like the real deal.

‘I know it’s Qatar, I know it’s not one of the strongest nations but against Ecuador he scored, against Senegal he scored, he is affects the game and players who affect the game, that is where the value is.

‘I really like him; I have liked what I have seen at PSV, and I am pretty sure there will be some offers on the door at PSV in January.’

And if you believe the words of reporter Iomie Stanley – he could solve that Gabriel Jesus issue the Gunners face – he told icfootballnews:Gakpo has shown that he is ready to make that next step in his career and play for a big club – and he has certainly shown that he is now worth such a massive asking price.

‘The news that Jesus will be out for a while is a massive blow to that Gunners attack – he really has been quality this season.

‘Gakpo has the ability to play in midfield – lead that attack and also play just behind the striker – he could be a useful asset.

‘Arteta does not need a player that will replace Jesus – he needs a player that will help cover the Brazilians absence – and Gakpo could be that man.
