£150,000-a-week star opens up and reveals why he snubbed Barcelona for transfer to Arsenal
Willian has revealed why he did not join Barcelona before signing for Arsenal this summer after he decided to leave Chelsea
The Brazilian was an easy firm favourite at Chelsea and one player that Frank Lampard was desperate to keep hold of last season, but contract issues meant that he left the club when the season was up last year.
There were many options for the Brazilian, as he is a world class player, and it was widely expected that he would make the move to La Liga and sign with Barcelona, but that did not happen and in the end he made the move to Arsenal.
Willian has made no secret of his love for London and is eagerness to stay in the Premier League, but he has not come out and revealed just why he did not make that big move to Barcelona in the transfer window.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, the ex-Chelsea star claimed the Spanish side did not put an official offer in for him, The 32-year-old said: “There are always rumours, but I didn’t know about any other official offer.
“Indeed, there was a lot of talk about Barcelona for the past few seasons, but I wouldn’t have gone there just because they’re Barca.
“I wouldn’t go to any club without hearing about their targets and what they wanted from me.”
Arsenal landing Willian on a free deal was a very good bit of business from the club to make as he has proven to be a world class player for Chelsea over the seasons, so the fact that he is part of the team makes this squad alot better.
He may not be in the best of form, but when he is on top of his game, he will definitely add goals to this Arsenal attack.
