Ex-Gunners star Willock opens up on making move to Newcastle this summer
Former Arsenal star Joe Willock has opened up about his move back to Newcastle United this summer window
The 21-year-old midfielder has completed his transfer after enjoying a successful loan spell with the Magpies last season, during which time he scored in the last seven Premier League matches of the season.
Now, speaking to BBC Newcastle, the English midfielder has revealed why he made the switch, and when he will be ready to play, Willock explained on the club website: “Coming back to Newcastle was always at the top of my list so when I decided to leave Arsenal, there was only one place I was going to go and that’s Newcastle.
“I didn’t really have a lot of games in pre-season, I only played 30 to 40 minutes in pre-season. I feel like, for me, I want to put the shirt back on and give my all for Newcastle United.
“Whether it’s this weekend or the following week, I feel like there will be a time where I need to step up and go on the pitch. I’d like to play this weekend so hopefully, I’ll get my opportunity whether it’s from the bench or the start.”
Willock has been Newcastle’s only major signing this summer. With this in mind, Bruce was asked after defeat to West Ham whether more business would be done, and his answer seemed to suggest that if more players are to arrive, it will almost certainly be on loan.
When questioned, Bruce revealed:
“I have always said that when you are in the loan market, then you have got to be patient, because you’ve got to wait.
“We have been patient with Joe [Willock] so look, let’s see what becomes available.
