Is Rice leaving Hammers?

ARSENAL legend Nigel Winterburn has cast doubt on the huge fee Declan Rice’s transfer may command.

Rice is one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League and a man that is heavily tipped to leave West Ham this coming transfer window – with all the big clubs interested in a potential deal.

However – there has been alot of speculation and rumours suggesting that West Ham will be demanding £120 million to let the midfielder leave at the end of the season.

And now – amid that speculation – Winterburn has cast doubt on whether the Hammers will get such a fee – Winterburn told OLBG: “I personally don’t see West Ham getting £120 million.

“I think they would get something in the region of £80 or £90 million, I think £120 million is a bit unrealistic considering the situation.

“Declan Rice is a terrific player, I like him a lot but for £120 million I don’t see it, especially with a year left on his contract.

“Maybe a club will match that valuation, I’d be amazed if it was Arsenal in all honesty.”

Gunners icon Ray Parlour has recently claimed that a move to the Emirates would help Rice realise his full potential: “I think most West Ham fans would expect Declan Rice to leave,” Parlour said on this morning’s talkSPORT Breakfast show.

“Of course I’d like him to go to Arsenal! I think most clubs would like him. He’s an excellent player, he’s never injured, he looks after himself.

“Going to ARSENAL, he might get a bit more of the ball and he might be able to get forward a bit more.

“When you’re playing at a club down the bottom of the Premier League you have to defend a little bit more as a midfielder, so we might not have seen the best of him yet.

“He can get forward a little bit more, because he is a good footballer as well. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who can score goals and also defend when he has to. He can’t really do that at West Ham.

“But for West Ham, it’s all about what they get for him and what they put back into the squad – they could probably get three or four top quality players for the money they get for him.

“I’m sure West Ham fans will look at it and say he’s been a great servant for the club and he’s doing it the right way, he wants to play a bit higher.

“And when Declan Rice does leave and comes back to the London Stadium, I think he will get an unbelievable reception from the West Ham fans.”
