Would Liverpool fans welcome world class signing to partner Van Dijk at the back?
Stan Collymore is excited about the prospect of Liverpool having Virgil Van Dijk and Kalidou Koulibaly at the back, but would fans want this deal to happen?
The Reds have been linked with a surprise late move swoop for the Napoli star, after it emerged in the media that Napoli were open to the idea of letting the powerhouse leave if the £60 million valuation was met.
It came as reports have suggested that Liverpool will need to add another defender to play alongside Virgil Van Dijk as the likes of Joe Gomes, Joel Matip and Fabinho are simply not good enough to play there on a regular basis.
Former Reds striker Stan Collymore said on the Daily Express: “The idea of Kalidou Koulibaly partnering Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s central defence has me so excited that I reckon it could be the best pairing since Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.”
However, Klopp will not spend for the sake of it and does not expect to do any more business before the October 5 deadline, The German was quoted on Sky Sports: “I don’t expect a lot to happen to be honest. You think you are well covered, we have three absolutely top centre-halves, young players in line, Fabinho at the back if you want and then all of a sudden three players are out for a few days and that is not nice. But you cannot solve that in the transfer market. That is just not possible.
“We will not even try if nothing more serious happens. I hope we don’t have to try that.
“If the situation stays like it is at the moment then there will be nothing. All the rest, we are in quite a good place squad-wise and what the outgoings will be I have no idea at the moment. We will see.”
Look, Liverpool have one of the best squads in the transfer window and have improved in the areas that they needed the most, so if no more transfer business gets done, it will not harm their chances of winning that title again.
But how good would this partnership be guys?
