Gunners legend Wright opens up and tells Arsenal he wants £350,000-a-week Ozil at the Emirates

Ian Wright has told former club Arsenal to keep hold of midfielder Mesut Ozil this summer window.

Ozil has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as there is constant speculation in the media suggesting that Ozil will be heading towards the exit signs.

Unai Emery has a style of play that just does not suit the German midfielder, and Ozil has been dropped more often than not this season when it comes to the big games.

The likes of Bayern Munich, PSG and a move to the MLS have been all talked about as possible destinations for the German, as reports have suggested Emery would be willing to get him off the wage bill.

The German playmaker is the Gunners’ highest-paid player, on a reported £350,000-a-week, and Emery could try and shift him to free up funds.

But Legend Wright has come to the defence of the German and urged Arsenal not to get rid this summer window.

Wright told the Daily Mirror: “I’m not for selling someone like Mesut Ozil because Mesut Ozil is the kind of player you want in your team.

“People can say whatever they want – levelling accusations that he doesn’t do it in this game or that game.

“The fact is that he is good enough to be doing it in those games.

“I have no problem with Mesut Ozil earning what he is earning, because at the end of the day you need players around him that can bring the best out of him as well.”

Ozil has not had the best of seasons at the Emirates under the guidance of Emery, but he is still the biggest name at the club.

However, he does not suit the style of Emery and if the right offer does arrive on the coming windows, then Arsenal should consider it.

They may as well get as much money they can for Ozil, as his valuation will start to go down the less he plays under Emery in the coming seasons.

And the fact that he is paid over £350,000-a-week means Emery could get the German off the wage bill and offer two superstars big wages to join up.
