Midfielder Granit Xhaka is edging closer to a new contract at Arsenal after an impressive start to the season

Arsenal have started the season in fine fashion and are sitting pretty at the very top of the Premier League – and playing some of the best football that fans have seen for quite a few seasons now

The Switzerland captain, 30, has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in his reinvented attacking midfield role and his stellar form has helped Arsenal to the top of the table.

Xhaka’s transformation has been absolutely extraordinary this season, as he looks a completely different player to the one who has been written off on so many occasions in the past.

The Gunners midfielder will now be in line for a new deal in North London, with reports suggesting that Arsenal are planning to open talks with the midfielder over fresh terms before the 2022 World Cup.

Amid all the speculation Mikhail Silvestre has opened up and claimed that Xhaka is crucial to Arsenal’s Premier League title bid

Speaking to bettingexpert, Silvestre said: “I go back to the Euros with Switzerland. They knocked out France but in the game and in the tournament, he has shown a lot of leadership and other qualities.

“I think his self-belief is even greater than when he joined Arsenal, when, I would say, everything was going well for him, and he was the captain.

“And now, he is obviously doing a great job at shielding the defence and linking the play going forward.

“He is rushing into the box because that is one of the things that he can do and is allowed to do with Mikel Arteta. I think he is a big, big part of what Arsenal is doing at the moment.

“So Arsenal need Xhaka fit if they want to stay up there at the end of the season.”

Edu told to sign Toney –

Arsenal should consider snapping up “different level” Ivan Toney from Brentford to add to that attack

Arsenal have had an amazing start to the new Premier League season and are playing the kind of football that fans are getting very excited about – and are loving watching

But there is still alot of speculation about who they could make for in the coming transfer window – but now they have been told that they should try and snap up Brentford hitman Toney

Toney hit 31 goals for Brentford when they won promotion out of the Championship in 2020-21 and has gone on to register 20 efforts in the top flight so far during his time in the Premier League

Reporter Iomie Stanley has suggested that there is potentially a £100 million ($113m) frontman in west London.

Iomie Stanley told IcFootballnews.: “I’ll say this. Is there many better strikers in the Premier League right now than Toney?

“The proof is in the pudding, he’s promoted to the Premier League with a team that’s not fancied to stay up, he’s one of the top three goalscorers in the Premier League in a team that, again, is not a favourite to be top-10, top-12 in the Premier League.

‘Arsenal have the brilliant Gabriel Jesus working wonders up top – but he isnt really a out and out striker – a man that can hold the ball up -win things in the air and give Mikel Arteta something different in that Attack

“If you were Arsenal and you can go and write a cheque for £100million and buy a player from Holland or a player from France and Italy and give them a year-and-a-half to acclimatise, are you going to write a cheque and buy one of the top three number nines in the Premier League, who is not even in the prime of his career?

“Toney is destined for one of the big clubs and if i was one of the Arsenal owners – he is definitely a player i would look into signing.’

Boss confirms Gakpo interest

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Cody Gakpo have been dented as PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy insists there is a lot of interest in him.

Gakpo has become one of the most talked about young attackers in Europe over the past 12 months after impressing for PSV – and he has started this season in fine fashion.

He has already scored 13 goals and added 11 assists for PSV and it is believed that Arsenal are readying a massive offer to try and get him signed up before more interest from big clubs come

However – van Nistelrooy has opened up and admitted that there is alot of interest in Gakpo – meaning that Arsenal may have to pay more than they would like if they get into a transfer battle

The former United striker said: “Of course, with the quality he is showing and the form he is having over the last three-four months is exceptional.

“His stats, his assists and goals that he is involved in, of course, draws the attention of the best clubs in European football.

“The good thing about him is that he is aged 23-years-old and is purely focused on his development and becoming a better player, doing well and captaining PSV the best he can.

“He is also focusing on a great World Cup as he is playing in the national team with [Louis]Van Gaal.

“For him he is in a fantastic moment and he wants to continue that and when the time comes he will make decisions when necessary.”

Gakpo is certainly a player that is ready to make that next step in his career and play in one of the big Leagues – so it will be interesting to see where he ends up when he does decide to leave PSV.

Arsenal have a good chance to sign the man – and will have a better chance if they get Champions League football this season

Yes Arsenal are on the right track Granite Xbaka deserves a new contract he has quality he is strong not injury prone he can play till the age of 38 his body built is a gift to him and I’m happy the fans have begin to see his potential qualities and the glory will go to Mikel Arteta who made it possible for him to stay back and the fan to see his new found form this prove that Arteta have eagle eyes and he and Edu are in peace and harmony. Let’s add at least 2 good qualities in the striking role and a quality midfield as strong as Xhaka if a third one can be in the defense in the mold of Tomiyasu and Ben White who can play in multiple position please start as early to score Southptonon Sunday as I wish us good luck
