Zidane clears way for Arsenal to seal deal, Gunners should sign Partey ‘all day long’ Arteta interested in signing £225,000-a-week Blues star and Lyon make Aouar decision
Zidane opens Aouar deal chase, Arsenal should sign Partey, Arteta interested in Jorginho and Lyon make late Aouar decision in Arsenal roundup….
Real Madrid Zinedine Zidane has played down rumours linking Arsenal target Houssem Aouar with a move to Spain from Lyon.
It is no secret in the media that Aouar is the number one transfer target for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who is keen to add a bit more creativity and excitement to his Arsenal side by Mondays deadline.
It has been claimed on numerous occasions that Aouar is interested in a move to London, and it has been reported on many occasions that talks are at an advanced stage over a possible transfer deal.
However, the problem about an official deal getting done is that asking price, with reports Arsenal are only prepared to pay £36 million for Aouar, while Lyon are demanding a fee closer to to £54 million for their star player.
And the fact that Arsenal cannot get a deal done led to rumours that Real Madrid are now ready to swoop in and take him to the Bernabeu this window, as Zidane is reportedly a massive admirer of the Frenchman.
However, Zidane has consistently claimed he is happy with his squad, and has now come out and played down the links that Madrid will be looking to sign Aouar: “I don’t know what information you have,” Zidane said in a press conference on Saturday when asked about the midfielder. “I have no doubt about that player, he is a fantastic player.
“Perhaps one day he could play for Madrid, but today we have this squad and my concern is the players I have now.
“From October 5 (when the window closes), we won’t have these questions.”
Arsenal should be prioritising a move for Thomas Partey over one for Houssem Aouar ‘all day long’, says Kevin Campbell,
Mikel Arteta can be proud of the signings that have already made the move to the Emirates this summer, and they have all made an immediate impact and made this Gunners squad alot more competitive.
However, Arteta knows that he needs to keep adding to his squad this summer, and has been eyeing up possible deals to bring in duo Aouar and Partey, who would cost the club over £80 million to acquire.
But although Campbell is happy to see his former club linked with players of Partey and Aouar’s calibre, he is in no doubt that Arteta should look to complete a deal for the Madrid star over the arrival of Aouar.
The former Arsenal striker told the Chronicles of a Gooner podcast when quizzed on the recruitment plan that he would favour: “Partey all day long.
“If we secure that midfield defensively and the screen in front of the back four, I think we win a lot more games than we lose.
“But if you add Houssem Aouar, who’s a very good technically-gifted player, we still have a problem in the middle of the pitch defensively.
“For years we’ve been calling out for a [Patrick] Vieira or Gilberto-type guy in there who can do box to box and break things up.
“If we don’t rectify that issue it’s still going to remain, we might be a little bit better going forward but we still haven’t rectified that problem at the back and in midfield.
“I want both but if I had to pick one, it’s Thomas Partey.”
Arsenal have again turned their attention to Jorginho now the deal for Houssem Aouar appears to be over.
There has been alot of speculation in the media over the past few days which have claimed that Chelsea may be open to the idea of letting Jorginho leave the club this transfer window after spending over £200 million on new signings.
It is believed that the midfielder is not part of Lampard’s long-term plans at Chelsea, and the boss is ready to let him leave so he can use the transfer money made from his sale, to complete one more transfer deal.
That led to shock speculation in the media that Arsenal are ready to swoop in and offer him a move to the Emirates, as Mikel Arteta is reportedly seeking to add a player like him to that Gunners midfield.
However, those rumours soon faded away as speculation increased that Arsenal were closing in on a transfer deal for the impressive Aouar, who has an asking price that Arsenal simply cannot afford to match this summer.
But The Gunners move for the Lyon man was left in tatters today after failing to meet the club’s valuation of the player, and according to the ESPN website, it is again rumoured that Jorginho is seen as a potential alternative.
Lyon have ruled out selling Houssem Aouar to Arsenal this summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Lyon ace has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates, after a very impressive season with the French side saw him impress in the Champions League on a number of occasions.
Lyon and Arsenal have been in talks about a possible deal for the Frenchman, who is reportedly keen to make the step up to the Premier League, but that £46 million asking price is something that Arsenal cannot afford right now.
Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal have made an offer of £36 million, which the French side are reportedly considering, but they are keen to get the full amount for a player that has the potential to be a superstar in the game.
Now, respected Journalist Fabrizio Romano has opened up and told the Arsenal fans that a deal for Aouar is now over as Lyon have stopped all negotiations over the possible sale of their in-demand star.
But in better news he claims the Gunners are the only club who may have a realistic chance of getting him this window, should they meet the asking price, he Tweeted: “OL board have stopped negotiations with Arsenal for Houssem Aouar.#AFC made clear they won’t pay €50m + add ons [€60m total] asked by Aulas and OL told to Arsenal that the deal is over.
“No Juventus, PSG or Real Madrid on last 2 days. Arsenal was the only chance. ⛔️ #Aouar”
This will come as a massive blow to Arsenal, if the reports are true as he is the player that Mikel Arteta reportedly wanted to build his side around.
However, there is still time to get a deal done, and we have seen in the transfer window that a deal is never over until that window closes.
