Zidane sends message to Bale as new Tottenham signing to be highest paid player in Premier League

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has wished Tottenham signing Gareth Bale good luck as he becomes the highest earner in the Premier League

During his time at Madrid following his move from Tottenham in the summer of 2013, Bale has won La Liga twice and the Champions League as many as four times and is still considered to be one of the very best players in world football.

However, he failed to win over the fans at Madrid and has been the subject of intense speculation about where he would go before Tottenham swooped in and offered him a way back to London.

And Zidane has opened up and wished the Welshman the best of luck, Zidane told Marca about Bale this afternoon: ”Now there are negotiations. I know what Gareth has done in this team. In the end, these things can happen.

“The only thing I can say is that it is not signed. What he has done nobody is going to discuss. If now there’s a change for him, just wish him well.

The Frenchman added: “It is also what he wants to do and I am not going to go into that matter. These are things that happen in football. I have always said that the player has been spectacular.”

Bale will still get paid his full £650,000 per week wage – as Spurs will cover around £325,000 each week for the Wales hero, £125,000 more than their next big-money earner, Harry Kane.

It means, in total, he will be paid more than the English top flight’s current top earner – Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea (£375,000-a-week) and will also see him paid more than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Paul Pogba.

It is a massive wage for Tottenham to pay, so many fans are hoping that he is still worth paying that amount of money for.
