Dutchman tells Emery Liverpool and Man United target Ziyech wants summer move to Arsenal
Ajax star Hakim Ziyech reportedly wants to sign for Arsenal this summer ahead of Liverpool or Manchester United.
There has been alpot speculation that Unai Emery is seeking to spend a big amount of money and bring in a few more players by August 8th, with Ziyech a name that has been mentioned as a possible arrival at the Emirates.
The 26-year-old has been one of the standout stars of Ajax’s squad this season, weighing in with 21 goals and 24 assists in 49 games from a wide midfield position as he helped Ajax clinch their first League title in five years while also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars recently revealed Ziyech – who has a release clause of £25million – is free to leave in the summer.
Overmars said on Telefoot: ‘He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League.
‘Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim [that we would] agree to a good transfer.’
And Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan revealed on Sky Sports’ Transfer Window podcast that he would like to sign for the Gunners: “I know that the player would like to go to a club like Arsenal – they have always played good football.”
Now Arsenal are in need of adding some more creativity and width to their already impressive attack and although many fans want to see some defenders arrive over the next few months, a deal for Ziyech could be a great bit of business.
The Moroccan star has shown great potential over at Ajax and tore Spurs apart in that second leg of the Champions League, which showed that playing even against the best Premier League defenders will not be a problem.
If Arsenal are serious about getting back to the top of the game, then a bargain deal for Ziyech could be a great bit of business by the club.
